We’re seeking a strategic leader who will lead a large organization responsible for a portfolio of products in the B2C and B2B Commerce space. In this role, you will lead the North American Software Engineering organization that is responsible for B2C, B2B and Makeswift. These product offerings are key to our portfolio and represent an area of strategic investment for the business. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the services and systems your teams build and maintain. You will be responsible for assessing and managing talent to ensure we have the capabilities needed to meet business objectives today and in the future. You are expected to be fluent with many different facets of managing a successful business within the context of a publicly traded company, including but not limited to corporate governance and structure, legal and contractual concerns, and employment law within the jurisdictions where your teams work and reside. You will be responsible for driving major strategic outcomes that are not necessarily within your direct control and must be able to influence peers and executives outside of the Engineering organization as well as within
Team:
Responsible for retaining, recruiting and developing top talent
Feedback: responsible for providing feedback for peers, partners and stakeholders inside and outside of the Engineering org
Responsible for expectation setting and holding others accountable
Responsible for assessing staff levels to support code and service ownership via sustainable practices
Responsible for the onboarding of new team members and building documentation to ensure quick and complete enablement
Responsible for calibration of talent across the Engineering organization
Responsible for managing performance including under-performance (up or out)
Customer:
Responsible for the customer experience and executive engagements [w/ customers]
Responsible for the security, availability and maintenance of code, services and dependencies
Ensures excellence in incident response to build trust by demonstrating deep understanding of root causes and commitment to improvement from learnings
Responsible for software and system design quality
Manage delivery timelines and ensure predictable delivery
Business:
Contribute to the establishment and execution of organizational goals
Understand and influences company strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
Establish priorities along with partners and ensure clarity of established priorities inside and outside of Engineering
Responsible for driving systemic improvement within Engineering (not limited to scope of remit) and partner organizations as needs / opportunities arise
Manage constraints and work with peers and partners to align capacity to top priorities
Responsible for the strategic leadership of the product space / services ensuring we have the right behaviors, architecture, talent and staffing levels to meet the needs of the business today and in the future (3 year time horizon)
How You Are
The successful candidate should have multiple years of experience leading large teams with a demonstrated track record of success.
Demonstrated ability to navigate high ambiguity and complexity.
Exceptional capacity for holding tension and is able to facilitate productive debate during high stress and high stakes situations
Critical and creative thinker who uses skill and experience to help others navigate ambiguity and complexity as well, in turn elucidating challenges and opportunities
Must exercise sound judgement and find ways to exploit opportunities surfaced as a result of challenging assumptions and deep inspection of proposals
Strong written and oral communication skills which are used to convey understanding and ensure alignment across all of Engineering as well as with the Executive Leadership Team and key partners in Product, Program Management and Customer Support
History of developing a strong leadership tier within previous organizations that allows you to focus on strategic objectives and proactive organizational improvement
History of defining and leading projects and programs that have organization and/or company wide impact
The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s location, relevant knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
