Job Title: VP, Marketing

Location: Remote

Job type: Full Time, Exempt

DocUpdate is building the physician network modern healthcare has been missing.

We connect clinicians, patients, and industry partners through free, HIPAA-compliant, mobile-first tools that accelerate access to treatment. Our platform helps healthcare providers prescribe faster, navigate patient access barriers, communicate across languages, and connect with the resources they need to care for patients without added friction.

Founded by dermatologist Dr. Osama Hashmi, DocUpdate is physician-led, clinician-first, and growing quickly because providers trust us. We are not building healthcare software for administrators. We are building practical tools for clinicians on the front lines of care.

We are looking for a VP of Marketing to help define the next era of the DocUpdate brand and scale one of the most influential physician communities in healthcare.

This is not a traditional healthcare marketing role.

We want someone who understands how iconic brands create identity, belonging, aspiration, and cultural relevance. Someone who can build a movement around a product experience. Someone who knows how to make clinicians feel like they are part of something important.

The right person has likely helped build brands that became categories unto themselves — through storytelling, community, events, content, and taste. Think: Soho House, Equinox, SoulCycle, Peloton, Slack, or The Wing in its early years.

You understand that great brands are not built through paid ads alone. They are built through emotional resonance, community trust, consistency, founder storytelling, and experiences people want to talk about.

At DocUpdate, the mission is real:
Help clinicians deliver care faster and remove friction from the treatment journey.

What You’ll Own:

You will lead the full marketing function across brand, growth, content, community, and experiential.

You will help transform DocUpdate from a fast-growing healthcare app into the most trusted and recognizable physician network in the country.

Core ResponsibilitiesBrand & Narrative
  • Define and evolve the DocUpdate brand as the company scales
  • Build a culturally relevant healthcare brand clinicians genuinely want to be associated with
  • Shape messaging across every touchpoint while preserving trust and clinical credibility
  • Ensure the brand consistently reflects our physician-first identity and voice
  • Translate complex healthcare workflows into clear, compelling storytelling
Founder Brand & Executive Visibility
  • Build a strong physician founder brand and turn us into one of the most influential physician-founder voices in healthcare
  • Develop high-impact thought leadership strategy across social channels (Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Reddit), podcasts, press, speaking engagements, and video
  • Create a scalable content engine around founder insights, physician advocacy, innovation, and access to care
  • Help position DocUpdate as the trusted voice connecting clinicians, industry, and patient access
Growth Marketing
  • Own clinician acquisition strategy across paid, organic, partnerships, referrals, and lifecycle marketing
  • Work with team to scale physician acquisition efficiently while maintaining brand quality and trust
  • Provide ideas for experimentation across channels including Meta, LinkedIn, Google, creator partnerships, podcasts, newsletters, events, and emerging platforms
  • Support full-funnel growth systems with strong attribution and performance analytics
  • Drive app downloads, clinician verification, activation, and retention
Community & Physician Council Growth
  • Expand and strengthen the DocUpdate physician community and advisory network
  • Create programs that increase engagement, loyalty, referrals, and clinician advocacy
  • Develop meaningful clinician experiences online and in-person
  • Build community initiatives that feel premium, valuable, and relationship-driven — not transactional
  • Help physicians feel connected to each other, not just to the product
Events & Experiential
  • Own DocUpdate’s event strategy across conferences, dinners, summits, pop-ups, roundtables, and physician experiences
  • Create healthcare experiences people genuinely want to attend
  • Elevate DocUpdate’s physical presence at conferences and industry gatherings
  • Build experiences that strengthen community, trust, and word-of-mouth growth
Content & Creative
  • Lead content strategy across video, social, editorial, email, podcasts, physician stories, and campaigns
  • Build highly shareable content clinicians actually engage with
  • Oversee creative direction and maintain exceptional brand standards
  • Develop campaigns that feel modern, intelligent, human, and clinically grounded
  • Create viral product launches and moments that earn attention organically
Team Leadership
  • Recruit and lead a high-performing modern marketing team
  • Build a culture of creativity, speed, accountability, and taste
  • Partner closely with product, partnerships, operations, and leadership
  • Bring structure and prioritization to a fast-moving organization
What We’re Looking For: Required Experience
  • 7+ years in marketing, brand, growth, or community leadership
  • Experience building culturally relevant brands with passionate communities
  • Proven success leading multi-channel acquisition and growth
  • Strong background across:
    • Paid media
    • Organic social
    • Influencer strategy
    • Community building
    • Lifecycle marketing
    • Content strategy
    • Experiential/events
    • Product launches
  • Experience scaling consumer, membership, creator-led, or community-driven brands
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling instincts
  • Strong creative judgment and brand taste
  • Analytical enough to understand performance metrics without becoming purely performance-driven
Ideal Background

You may come from:

  • A high-growth consumer brand
  • A membership/community company
  • A modern wellness or lifestyle brand
  • A creator-led media brand
  • A disruptive SaaS company known for storytelling and product marketing
  • A healthcare company that broke through culturally, not just commercially

Bonus points if you have experience marketing to physicians or highly credentialed professional audiences.

 Who You Are
  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Creative and commercially minded
  • Obsessed with brand
  • Strong operator who can execute as well as strategize
  • Personable and relationship-driven
  • Comfortable moving fast without sacrificing quality
  • Naturally curious about healthcare, culture, technology, and human behavior
  • Able to balance aspiration with credibility
  • A strong communicator in every setting, from decks to physician dinners to social copy

Most importantly, you understand that trust is earned slowly in healthcare and lost quickly.

You know how to build brands that people believe in.

The base salary range for this role is $170,000 - $210,000

Where you land within the range will reflect your skills, experience, and location, while keeping team parity in mind and leaving room for future growth.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
