What You’ll Do

Blackpoint Cyber is a provider of leading-edge cybersecurity threat hunting, detection, and response technology. Blackpoint was founded by former National Security Agency (NSA) cyber operations experts that applied their expertise to bring nation/state grade technologies to commercial customers around the world.

We are looking for an experienced Staff Data Engineer who will operate in a Technical Lead for Blackpoint’s Data Platform Team

Candidates will directly support Blackpoint’s cyber security mission, helping to stop cyber-attacks, and protecting Blackpoint’s rapidly growing customer base.

Summary:

As Staff Data Engineer, you will lead the architecture and development of Blackpoint Cyber’s enterprise data platform. You will drive foundational work across ingestion, storage, transformation, governance, observability, and cost optimization.

This role reports directly to the Head of Data Platform.

Who You Are:

Blackpoint Cyber is looking for someone who has:

· 7+ years of hands-on Data Engineering experience with distributed systems and modern data architecture.

· Proven experience driving complex data initiatives and mentoring senior engineers.

· Ability to architect for scalability, resiliency, performance, security, and cost efficiency.

· A data-first, analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and influence skills across engineering and leadership.

What You’ll Bring:

Experience in:

· Cloud infrastructure & operations (AWS required; Azure/GCP helpful)

· Data streaming & event-driven processing (Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming)

· Distributed ETL & batch processing (Spark, EMR, Kubernetes-based compute)

· Primary programming language: Python (data pipelines, ETL, orchestration)

· TypeScript for platform services/tooling (preferred)

· Go (Golang) is a strong plus since all services run on Kubernetes (EKS)

· SQL & data modeling

· Modern table formats (Iceberg, Parquet)

· Containerization & orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

· CI/CD, GitFlow, and DevOps best practices

DataOps: data versioning, lifecycle management, quality checks, governance

Nice to Have:

· Experience with Trino/Presto, graph engines, or search systems

· Experience with BI semantic layers or medallion architectures

· Background in cybersecurity, SIEM, or event-driven systems

Familiarity with Agile Scrum

How You’ll Make an Impact:

· Lead architectural decisions for the Data Platform across ingestion, modeling, storage, and orchestration.

· Design and maintain pipelines for onboarding new data domains:

o Survey data

o MDR events & alerts

o Agent Business Intelligence (accounts, tenants, metadata)

· Implement and own the Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) to support analytics, reporting, and AI, including building a scalable Gold BI layer.

· Deliver multi-cloud integrations with Azure, AWS, GCP and identity integration with Auth0/Okta.

· Strengthen observability across pipelines, storage layers, and workflows—introducing metrics, lineage, SLAs/SLOs, and alerting.

· Implement robust data lifecycle practices for retention, versioning, partitioning, GDPR compliance, backup, and archival.

· Collaborate with Product, Engineering, AI, and Security teams to ensure data availability, quality, and reliability.

· Mentor Senior Data Engineers and provide technical leadership for the Data Platform roadmap.
