Software Engineer in Test

Position Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to join Telestream's QA automation team as a Software Engineer in Test, working on products used in high profile live events such as sports, music, and reality television, as well as file-based media workflows for broadcast networks and cable companies. In this role, you will go beyond traditional testing to build the sophisticated engineering backbone that ensures our cloud-based media processing and streaming services remain world class. You will own end-to-end test automation using Playwright, integrated into GitHub Actions CI pipelines, and drive automated load and performance testing against REST and GraphQL APIs at scale. 

Location: US West - Remote

Our process includes a live, hands-on technical interview conducted via shared terminal and screen share. You will be asked to work through TypeScript and Test Automation scenarios in real time—no take-home exercises, no slides. Candidates who are comfortable with the skills listed above will do well. Candidates who are not, will find this stage difficult to navigate. We value people who are direct about what they know and what they’re still learning.


Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks.
  • Build tools for test execution, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain CI/CD infrastructure to support automated testing.
  • Execute and automate functional, negative, performance, and end-to-end tests.
  • Create and maintain automated test suites to enable timely product releases with minimal regression risk.
  • Leverage code coverage and analysis tools to identify gaps and expand test coverage.
  • Identify, document, and track defects; analyze root causes and verify fixes meet customer expectations.
  • Debug and troubleshoot complex issues while collaborating closely with software engineering teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, network and digital technology, or a related field. 
  • 5+ years of experience in an automated testing role with a technology organization. 
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript. 
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright for frontend and end-to-end test automation. 
  • Experience with automated load testing tools such as Grafana k6, Locust, or similar. 
  • Experience testing REST and GraphQL APIs through scripting or programming. 
  • Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions or comparable CI/CD systems supporting automated testing pipelines. 
  • Experience using Git for version control and team collaboration. 

Additional Requirements:

  • Familiarity with digital media workflows, including video streaming, live production, or file-based transcoding. 
  • Knowledge of broadcast and media infrastructure (e.g. SDI, ST 2110, SRT). 
  • Familiarity with video processing tools (e.g. FFmpeg, OBS). 
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and relational databases. 
  • Experience working with AWS services in a cloud-native testing context. 
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate test scripting and automation.
