Job Summary:
The Software Development Manager’s primary responsibility is delivering software that meets the objectives of our customers as defined by the Product Managers. This position is responsible for leading and managing developers and testers. The team is primarily located in the US, with some offshore team members.The ideal candidate is expected to direct the development of products and features based on sound product architectural principles, building off requirements defined by the product owner. This individual will be accountable that architecture and design meet requirements through empowering and growing members on their team. In addition, this role is responsible to drive productivity and continuous improvements in the development process. She/he must effectively mentor developers and work with team leads to help manage their day-to-day tasks.

Key Responsibilities:Development Process:
- Work with the Product Managers, Customer Care Manager, and Professional Services Manager to set expectations and ensure resources are aligned to deliver projects
- Direct execution of the development plan using Agile/SCRUM methodologies applying project management approaches to keep on time and budget. Implement effective reporting/metrics/dashboards.
- Stay current with emerging AI technologies and industry trends, and translate these insights into actionable technology roadmaps.
- Drive continued adoption of AI-assisted software development practices, tools, and frameworks
- Lead a cross functional team of developers and testers, ensuring all resources are fully utilized. When necessary provide product and technology cross training opportunities
- Ensure a high level of attention is given to Quality Assurance (QA) best practices, automation, and encouraging a QA focused development culture
- Responsible for meeting milestones and ensuring product release
- Actively perform and promote code reviews and use these as opportunities for group learning
- Work with Product Owners to understand priorities and plan development sprints accordingly
- Identify and execute opportunities where AI and automation can enhance engineering productivity, QA coverage, and feature delivery
- Responsible for furthering Agile/SCRUM methodology with the focus on improving efficiency
- Define and complete root cause analysis to improve processes and customer satisfaction. Help implement necessary logging/alerting mechanisms
Architecture/Design:
- Responsible for creating and updating a technical roadmap which will shape the technology direction and development tools of the present and future along with managing and helping prioritize technical debt.
- Contribute and collaborate on design with product development, Product Managers and P&L Lead
- Complete technical specifications of products and features based on the requirements defined by the Product Managers based on customer input and market research
Talent Management, Talent Development, Strategic Workforce Planning:
- Foster a culture of experimentation and continuous learning around AI-enabled development tools and methods
- Manage performance, motivate, and develop the team with regular feedback and measurement of effectiveness

Travel is required to support the distributed development teams and attend various planning meetings. Occasionally, travel to certain customer meetings for marketing efforts such as trade shows or conferences may be required. Travel will be expected up to 10% as necessary.
Required EducationDegree/Diploma in Engineering, Computer Science or another technical discipline
Preferred Education- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or another technical discipline
- 7 years’ experience working in Software development including minimum 1-2 years of previous experience managing a development team.
- Strong knowledge of application development as well as experience with professional development language
- Experience leveraging AI in software engineering workflows
- Experience with deployed on-premises legacy software
- Experience with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD)
- Required experience in leading a software development team
- Required experience designing and developing desktop commercial applications
- Strong background in client-server systems technology, with good familiarity of legacy technology
- Experience with a wide array of technologies
- C#, .NET, MS SQL
- Commercial software development experience
- Strong knowledge of the agriculture industry and/or Greenstone’s products
- Experience in re-platforming applications to new technology
This is a remote based position with office options in Alpharetta, GA or Ankeny, IA.
