Who We Are

Babylist is the leading platform for expecting and new families. More than 10 million people shop with Babylist every year, making it the go-to destination for seamless purchasing, guidance, and expert recommendations. As a modern, AI-forward tech company, Babylist has expanded from a universal registry into a full ecosystem — the Babylist Shop, Babylist Health, Babylist Money, NYC and LA showrooms, branded content, and more — generating $750M in revenue in 2025. Building the generational brand in baby, Babylist is reshaping the $235B kids and baby market and helping parents feel confident, connected, and cared for at every step.

Our Ways of Working

Babylist is remote-first with team members across the U.S. and Canada who move fast, think smart, and use AI as part of how they work every day — not as an experiment, as an expectation. We come together twice a year to build the relationships behind the work, and we hire people who are genuinely excited about what's possible and prove it through how they show up.

How We Build
Babylist is in the middle of a fundamental shift in how software gets made, and we are not tiptoeing into it. We are rebuilding our engineering culture around a simple belief: AI changes everything. How teams are structured, how decisions get made, how fast ideas become working software. Our engineers own problems end to end, working directly with product, design, and business partners with short feedback loops and real stakeholder access. We ship, learn, and iterate fast. When something is not working, we throw it out and start over — project failure and personal failure are not the same thing here. AI tools are as natural to our workflow as an IDE or version control. We are not exploring this, we are living it. Our engineers use AI to explore tradeoffs, pressure-test designs, and move from problem to solution in hours instead of days. They generate code with AI so they can stay focused on the decisions that actually require human judgment — not the routine ones. More velocity means more time for craft: better test coverage, stronger architecture, and deeper customer understanding. We hold ourselves to a higher quality bar because of AI, not in spite of it. We are building this playbook in real time, and we are looking for people who want to build it with us. If you have already changed how you work because of AI — or you are ready to — and you care more about shipping something great than following a prescribed process, we should talk.

What the Role Is

Babylist is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a set of cross-product engineering teams responsible for foundational systems that impact every customer experience across the product.

This role exists at a pivotal moment. As Babylist continues to grow, we need a leader who can bring clarity to ambiguous problems, align stakeholders across the business, and help teams make smart investments in the shared capabilities that power multiple products. You'll oversee the Account Foundations team, Frontend Platform team, and a Special Projects team focused on solving high-impact challenges that don't fit neatly into a single product area.

You'll lead a team of engineers, partner closely with Product, Design, and Executive Leadership, and help shape both the technical direction and operating model for some of Babylist's most strategically important work. This is a role for someone who enjoys building the path while walking it—creating leverage for teams across the company while delivering meaningful customer impact

Who You Are

  • 5+ years experience leading multiple engineering teams through ambiguity — you can bring focus, alignment, and momentum when the path forward isn't obvious
  • You're an engineering leader who thrives in cross-cutting product environments — you enjoy solving problems that create leverage for dozens of teams and millions of customer interactions
  • Skilled at building strong partnerships with executive stakeholders — you translate technical tradeoffs into business decisions and earn trust at every level
  • Able to grow high-performing teams through coaching, clear expectations, and thoughtful delegation — your impact scales through the people around you
  • Comfortable leading the development of consumer-facing products and platforms at scale — you balance long-term technical health with delivering meaningful customer outcomes
  • Builder-minded and resourceful — when the right tool doesn't exist, you're willing to create it, automate it, or rethink the process entirely
  • If your strongest preference is operating within a narrowly defined roadmap and established playbook, this role will feel frustrating — helping create clarity is part of the job
  • You're genuinely excited about what AI can do - not just as a concept, but as something you want to get your hands on. At Babylist, every team uses AI daily, and we're looking for people who lean in.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Cross-Product Strategy — define and drive the technical direction for foundational systems that support experiences across Babylist
  • Team Leadership — lead, coach, and develop engineers and engineering managers across the Account Foundations, Frontend Platform, and Special Projects teams
  • Executive Partnership — collaborate closely with senior leaders to align technical investments with company priorities and long-term strategy
  • Technical Decision-Making — guide teams through complex architectural choices, balancing scalability, maintainability, and customer impact
  • Exploratory Bets — lead exploratory and high-priority initiatives from concept through execution, helping turn promising ideas into tangible outcomes
  • Operational Excellence — establish clear processes, communication patterns, and accountability mechanisms that help teams move quickly and effectively
  • Organizational Leverage — build systems, practices, and capabilities that enable multiple product teams to deliver better experiences for customers

Why This Role

  • You’ll lead teams working on foundational systems that touch nearly every customer journey at Babylist, creating impact well beyond a single product area.
  • This role offers a rare combination of strategic influence and hands-on organizational leadership — you’ll help decide what gets built and how teams work together to build it.
  • You’ll step into a space with meaningful ambiguity and high visibility, where your ability to create clarity and momentum will directly shape company outcomes.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to build new capabilities, lead greenfield initiatives, and influence the technical foundations that support Babylist’s next stage of growth

About Compensation

We use a market-based approach to compensation. The starting salary range for this role is:

$228,700-$280,900

Your starting salary will be based on your location, experience, and qualifications, with increases over time tied to performance, role growth, and internal pay equity.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
