As our Senior Engineering Manager, you will be a key member of the engineering leadership team by helping us scale people, technology, and processes. Not only will you be responsible for building a highly innovative and compelling product experience across millions of students (and teachers), you'll also develop world-class software to help school districts and educators maximize their societal impact. Additionally, this person will drive conception to design to implementation of product development across multiple platforms and will develop ownership and accountability for organizational success and build a solid team culture. What you'll do:

  • Active performance management and mentoring of individual engineers (including technical leads).
  • Set up the team (and members) for long-term success with clear expectations and goal setting. 
  • Partner effectively with Program Management team to collaborate across business stakeholders. 
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Program Management for work sequencing and prioritization.
  • Lead architecture design and define technical guidelines and engineering best practices. 
  • Actively track technical debt and sponsor its remediation through data driven decisions. 
  • Manage vendor relationships (and related priorities) in combination with executive leadership. 

What you'll need:

  • 10+ years of solid technical expertise including a minimum of 7 years of managerial experience with high-performing teams managing customer-facing applications and/or SaaS platforms at scale. 
  • Demonstrated success leading, recruiting and managing engineering teams in a rapidly-changing, iterative environment with diverse stakeholders (both internal and external).
  • Experience working within an agile workflow (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe etc.).
  • Working experience in the educational technology domain highly preferred.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems in a public cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure, GCP).
  • Strong exposure to AWS processing stack (data pipeline, aggregation and storage).
  • Exposure to front-end development applications and tools (React/Redux preferred).
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams handling front-end, application tier and data applications. 
  • Ability to evaluate new technologies and tools to implement engineering best practices.
