About the Opportunity

We are looking for a sharp, enthusiastic, and driven Lead Engineer to drive tech product development at Sidebench. A Lead Engineer’s responsibility is to team with our Product Managers to guide the technical side of our client projects from discovery through development, making architectural decisions and leading the development team, stepping in to contribute code when necessary. You leverage all the resources you need, construct the team you want, but the buck stops with you.

Should be strategic, pragmatic, and passionate about software development best practices. Must be able to communicate complex technical concepts with ease. Should be introspective, always incorporating feedback and lessons learned to improve our processes. This is an excellent opportunity for a personable, empathetic, and well-rounded software engineer who wants to make a greater impact than possible as a solo developer.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with product management & design teams to lead the development of internal and consumer-facing applications
  • Define technical and functional requirements, create technical documentation and architecture diagrams for a wide range of products
  • Draft APIs, database schemas, state machine diagrams, and logic maps for projects
  • Guide technical architecture decisions and convey benefits in layman’s terms to non-technical clients
  • Collaborate with and oversee our distributed development and QA teams
  • Implement project code review processes and help debug tough problems
  • Validate development estimates and lead daily scrums with the PM
  • Ensure high quality across all Sidebench development team members, evaluate new potential development partners
  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of 3rd party libraries/frameworks

 

Requirements

  • 4+ years professional software development experience in one or more of the following domains:
    • Web: Ruby (Rails), Node.js, React, Vue.js
    • Mobile: iOS (Swift), Android, React Native, Unity
  • Significant previous work with network-based APIs, preferably REST/JSON
  • Strong understanding of the principles of object-oriented, functional, and event-driven programming
  • Experience with continuous integration/deployment, DevOps basics, TDD
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be responsive, proactive, enthusiastic, and adaptable
  • Must be comfortable leveraging remote dev teams to achieve greater productivity
  • Must be comfortable overseeing up to 3-4 different client projects simultaneously
  • (Bonus) Significant open source contributions
  • (Bonus) Prior experience managing development teams

Salary

Salary Range: $120k+
