The Role

Job Title: Senior Engineer, Cloud Architecture
Your impact:
As Senior Cloud Engineer, you will support the design, development and testing of the cloud infrastructure for Intelsat's next-generation network. You will support collaboration within the organization for public and private cloud initiatives to define Intelsat's global hybrid cloud architecture.
What you will do:

  • Maintain integrity of design for cloud infrastructure components, including NICs, RAMs, and cabling
  • Maintain and ensure host environment is up to date including host OS and software releases and associated dependencies.
  • Configure and deploy guest VNFs and CNFs within the cloud virtualization and container orchestration platforms, including vSphere and Rancher.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to hosted VNFs and CNFs deployments.
  • Create, update, and maintain relevant documentation and design diagrams for handoff to engineering teams.
  • Understanding of security management best principles for cloud computing
  • Mitigate and remediate know security vulnerabilities for hosted VMs
  • Support product enablement of new network services that rely upon cloud infrastructure.
  • Identify technologies, systems, and processes to reduce CAPEX and OPEX
  • Support Intelsat's technology roadmap, including datacenter architecture and orchestration of virtual network functions within Intelsat's global network.
  • Collaborate with other SMEs to help design cloud infrastructure that integrates seamlessly with Intelsat's IP/MPLS network and 3GPP mobile network of the future.
  • Support technical leads for business process automation, network, and service orchestration, to ensure the allocation of cloud resources is performed in concert with other systems.
  • Support datacenter cloud monitoring tools development
  • Support cloud leads in development activities for private and public cloud.


Your required experience/skills:

  • This role is subject to EAR/ITAR and candidates must be US Persons (US Citizens, Permanent Residents, Asylees, Refugees)
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or technology
  • At least 5-years of relevant experience with cloud architectures and the network functions to be virtualized therein.
  • Technical expertise for datacenter virtualization, containers, and orchestration of VNFs/CNFs within a hybrid cloud environment that is global in scale.
  • Experience with RHEL, Kubernetes, Docker, Virtualization, Public Cloud, Git, Ansible, Terraform
  • The ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, drive resolution of complex problems, and build consensus to move projects forward on schedule.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Experience with the virtualization of key network functions used for Intelsat's next-gen SDN: SatComm platform, 3GPP mobile network, content delivery networks, etc.
  • Knowledge of ETSI NFV, ONF/CORD and other relevant standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, etc.)

  • Familiarity with Standards Definition Organizations and Standards relevant to cloud technologies
  • Knowledge of architectures and solutions for Mobile Edge Computing (MEC)
  • Technical expertise with Network Function Virtualization and Software-Defined Network technologies: Linux, CentOS, SRIOV, DPDK, OpenStack, VMWare, KVM, OpenShift, Rancher, OVS, JSON, REST, YANG, NetConf, RestConf, OSI model, Ethernet, IP, UDP/TCP
  • Understanding cloud architectures for space-based communications networks

  • CALIFORNIA STATE EXEMPT Pay Rate: The annual salary range for this position is $98,801 to $130,000. In determining compensation, Intelsat considers factors including position scope and responsibilities, candidate's work experience, education/training, skills, internal peer equity, as well as others when extending an offer.
