Job Description

The Senior Business Development Manager is a senior, hunter‑oriented sales role responsible for identifying, pursuing, and closing new business for complex, protocol‑driven clinical and analytical studies in the cosmetics, personal care, and hygiene sectors in the North American region. This individual will engage senior decision‑makers at leading brands and translate scientific and clinical needs into tailored study solutions.

This role is best suited for a proven new‑business closer with experience selling specialized, technical, or customized products or services into sophisticated client organizations.

Directly Reports To: Head of Cosmetics and Personal Care, North America

Responsibilities

  • Own new client acquisition for specialized and complex clinical studies within the cosmetics, personal care, and hygiene markets, with clear accountability for client revenue growth.
  • Prospect, engage, and build senior‑level relationships with R&D, clinical, regulatory, and innovation leaders at target accounts.
  • Lead consultative, insight‑driven sales cycles for bespoke clinical programs, collaborating with scientific and operational stakeholders to shape study design, scope, and value proposition.
  • Identify and convert white‑space opportunities by aligning sponsor innovation pipelines and development roadmaps with SGS clinical capabilities.
  • Manage opportunity qualification, proposal strategy, pricing discussions, and commercial negotiations, including master service agreements and complex study contracts.
  • Provide structured market intelligence to leadership on emerging clinical trends, claim substantiation requirements, and evolving study methodologies that inform future service development.
  • Up to 40% of travel within the US is required

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of business development or sales experience with a demonstrated track record of closing new business.
  • Proven success selling highly specialized, technical, or bespoke products or services through consultative, multi‑stakeholder sales processes.
  • Experience engaging senior decision‑makers and navigating complex, solution‑based sales cycles.

Preferred

  • Experience in clinical research, cosmetics, personal care, life sciences, or other regulated or science‑driven industries.
