Bird is a last-mile electric vehicle sharing company dedicated to bringing safe, low-cost, environmentally-friendly transportation solutions to communities across the world. We provide a fleet of electric, shared scooters that can be accessed via smartphone. Bird is headquartered in Venice, California and is rapidly expanding across the country and the world.

The Payments Lead at Bird will work in close collaboration with finance, product, and the data team to investigate and solve complex problems that arise in Bird’s revenue and payment cycle. You’ll leverage your deep understanding of virtual payments, gateways, card networks, banks, and payout partners to help establish and drive the success of Bird’s payment engine across the world. You will work closely with your business partners to isolate root causes, determine scope, monitor changes, and build reports to help both internal and external stakeholders understand and navigate payment issues globally.

What You'll Do:

• Work across the company to establish the payments infrastructure and partnerships we need to enable Bird to rapidly scale and unlock new markets
• Investigate issues in Bird’s payment engine infrastructure – including declines, authorizations, refunds, payouts, and non-card payment methods
• Reach out directly to external partners and issuing banks to probe service issues or changes in behavior, and direct resolutions
• Receive and refine product feedback related to our payment engine, and work with finance and product teams to plan and prioritize work to address Bird’s needs across the world

What You Have:

• Has 5-7 years of direct experience within the payments industry
• Has strong written and verbal communication skills, and is effective in adjusting their style with audiences of varying technical ability
• Is comfortable working independently and collaborating with a distributed team
• Has a proven track record for working well across teams and with external partners
• Is excited to help build a robust payment engine from scratch
