Head of Product

The Head of Product will lead and manage all product-related efforts across the company, creating innovative solutions around two core components: eCommerce platform (desktop and mobile) and pioneering The Black Tux into creating a seamless omni-channel experience.
This person will have shown a demonstrated ability to conceive, define, build and deliver innovative product roadmaps. Ultimately, the goal is to own the formalwear category for every event that a man needs to dress up for, with a better product and customer experience than the big box stores.
To do this effectively, you must be capable of leading and inspiring product, technology, and design teams to conceive, develop, scope, spec, build, and go-live with products that have a massive impact through consumer adoption, funnel optimization, and turning everybody in the wedding party into repeat users for their own weddings and formal events.
What You'll Do
- Setting the Vision. The Head of Product is responsible for creating a successful Product vision across both online and offline, and leveraging that vision to build an attainable Product Roadmap. This process of creation will be informed and validated by the candidate's deep understanding of The Black Tux’s brand and consumer – specifically the logistical challenges around getting an entire event (wedding party) aligned and through the rental experience.
- Innovation. Set the tone for creating, designing, and delivering top-of- the-line, pioneering products that advance The Black Tux as an industry leader in premier luxury active apparel. The candidate should possess an innovator’s mindset for all consumer-facing products.
- Leadership. Recruit, mentor and cultivate diverse teams of incredibly smart, mission-driven individuals. Give them the tools, leadership, and motivation to innovate and make decisions that support the vision of the company. Support and allocate resources for an effective organizational structure that balances process, accountability and scalability with product velocity and innovation.
- Conversion & Commerce. The core of this role is to achieve conversion and commerce with as little friction as possible while benchmarking against world-class user experiences, both online and offline. It is paramount that this executive be resourceful. The candidate must have an understanding of how to accomplish product goals not only within budget, but with a sharp sense of ingenuity.
- Brand Ethos. Develop a true understanding of The Black Tux and their brand to ensure that all Products align with the core brand tenants. Being highly Analytical and Data-Driven. The Head of Product will utilize analytics and data as much as possible in the decision-making process. They will strongly commit to iterative and agile product development methodology, supported and validated by A/B testing, consumer and competitive research, and ongoing customer feedback.
- Project Management. Monitor and report on the status of all projects, ensuring deadlines, and milestones are met. Set and meet aggressive product initiatives and timelines, which will increase the speed to market with product launches yet ensure the highest levels of quality.
- Design Sensibility. Oversee the design and usability of everything that The Black Tux creates. Impact the “UX factor” of product development by influencing wireframes, taxonomy, flows. You will need to understand the evolution of UI/UX, user consumption patterns, and user mechanics.
- Scoping. Clearly articulate the product requirements. These requirements will be based on market-driven feedback from users, your experience, and business requirements.
- Rapid Prototype / Speed. Develop a fast-paced organization/culture to prototype, test and release.
- Define the competitive marketplace. The Head of Product will be part of developing a corporate understanding of The Black Tux’s business risks, competitive landscape, and industry-wide (or niche) opportunities.
- Work cross-functionally. The Head of Product will manage and work closely with the technology and sales/marketing groups to develop, scope, spec, build, and go-live with products based on technical capability and customers needs.
- Engineering partnership. Work with engineering teams in the definition of functional requirements and lead the design and execution of applications and products.
- Presentation. Work with the team to create/prepare presentations for Executive Team / Board representing user experience deliverables through presentation of design concepts.
Who You Are
- Ideally based in Los Angeles, but open to frequent travel if relocation is not a possibility.
- 10+ years of progressive product experience with at least three (3) years in a leadership role.
- Prior experience with a complex high growth e-commerce services business.
- Proven checkout / payments leadership and success is critical.
- Past experience working with venture and/or private equity investors.
- Exposure to a complex workflow is required. You will have worked with commerce and consumer interface dealing with demands like – rentals (RentTheRunway), scheduling (Uber or Lyft in advance), return orders (Zappos), subscription (TrunkClub, StitchFix), marketplaces (DogVacay, Soothe), ordering (Postmates, Doordash, Instatcart), applications (Legalzoom, TurboTax), e-learning (Udacity, Lynda,OpenEnglish).
- Conversant in the companies transforming traditional consumer channels such as Uber, Airbnb, ZocDoc, Kayak, Jet, Dollar Shave Club, Bonobos, Everlane, Capser, Warby Parker, Harry’s, and others.
- You are still hands-on (but also a leader) creating user stories and wireframes through the entire process influencing creative, design UI/UX, specs (eg: market, functional, technology specs), and workflows.
- Experience with lean and agile product development methods.
- Understanding of cloud technologies and leveraging big data.
- Experience with product / UX aspects of direct to consumer models including segmentation & targeting (CRM), acquisition & retention (LTV), pricing & revenue (RPU) and conversion reporting & analytics (KPI).
- Experience with CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization) and tools (VWO, Optimizely, or equivalent).
- Experience developing dashboards and key metrics to track the business and enable strategic planning.
- Business Intelligence tools experience a plus (Domo, Tableau etc.).
- Firm grasp on the interconnected relationship between product and engineering (and product and marketing) teams with strong thoughts on how best to manage projects / teams effectively.
- Data and metrics driven with experience analyzing markets and trends, anticipating and identifying opportunities, and developing insight at a strategic level.
- Expertise in revenue maximization, strategic planning, forecasting are critical skills; these deals need to generate upside for the company.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage heavy workload, providing visibility into the workflow.
- Ability to make sound judgments with counsel from others on a leadership team.
- Outstanding strategic planning skills with the ability to quickly and effectively take complex company objectives, and translate them into actionable plans.
- A high degree of personal initiative, interpersonal skills, creativity and the ability to listen, communicate, write, learn, and facilitate processes within a complex, fast moving organization.
- Personality profile to fit into a high-growth, entrepreneurial culture that requires teamwork and significant interaction with employees at all levels; you must be willing/able to get things done without the help of a large staff.
