Category Management

The Category Management team develops and executes the overall Italic product upon which the rest of the company follows. Category Managers partner with all functions across every stage of the end-to-end product lifecycle and are responsible for the general management, expansion, and calibration of their respective departments.

Role

Italic Category Managers are the internal CEOs of our Product Team and run each department as a startup of its own. You will develop the overall vision and strategy for the Italic's fashion product line, our fastest-growing and largest department by sales and SKUs composed of apparel, accessories, and jewelry. You will mine consumer insights and work with cross-functional partners from product development to operations to create new or sunset old products in an effort to drive growth, efficiency, and customer love.

This is a critical role that requires to think, act, and work like a founder — you will move quickly, overcome challenges, and learn a lot through the the end-to-end creation, expansion, and management of an entire collection. The ideal candidate is hyper-entrepreneurial, fiercely independent, and has a strong understanding of the respective category.

Responsibilities

  • Assume the role of lead product marketer and collaborate with the Go-To-Market Leads to launch new products successfully
  • Rapidly concept and develop line plans for your categories taking into account product white space opportunities, competitive dynamics, product trends, and historical performance
  • Partner with Product Development Manager to ensure on-time delivery of product
  • Partner with Product Development Managers to negotiate terms and develop excellent merchant relationship
  • Partner with Operations Managers to ensure inventory is fulfilled or freighted on-time
  • Review prototypes and provide feedback on-time per communication SLAs
  • Own and recap financial performance and metrics, make strategic recommendations in order to achieve sales, sell through, margin and inventory targets
  • Create and improve processes as needed to ensure efficient product lifecycle flow including QA, on-time deliveries, e-commerce operations, site merchandising, product marketing, fulfillment, etc.
  • Support Creative Team to provide product information for photo shoots and content creation

Requirements

  • 3+ years in category management, product development, or planning at a high-growth marketplace, brand, or retailer with relevant category experience
  • Hyper-entrepreneurial, scrappy, and thrives in uncertainty. Strong work ethic and can-do attitude required
  • Work with financial reporting, planning, forecasting, or analysis preferred
  • Self motivated leader with capability to manage timelines
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, and able to juggle multiple tasks effectively while adhering to deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, effective negotiation skills a plus
