We are looking for a Vice President, VP Infrastructure (Cloud Infrastructure) to set the vision, strategy, and leadership for the IT infrastructure delivery organization for SimplePractice. The overall responsibility for this executive role is to provide strategic direction and leadership across the DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, Operations functions to drive improved service quality, resiliency, and performance of the underlying infrastructure, computing capacity and associated operational processes that support the company 24x7. Additionally, this key role is responsible for supporting our efforts in Information Security and Risk Management that comprises a strategy, roadmap and day to day execution to proactively defend and protect the company’s data, systems and IP assets. 

What you'll do day-to-day

  • Lead a team of highly skilled DevOps and Site Reliability engineers
  • Provide the vision, strategic leadership and subject matter expertise for the growth and technical direction of SimplePractices’ infrastructure; provide guidance and expertise on system options, risks, costs vs. benefits, and impacts on our processes and goals.
  • Oversee operations of the company’s technology infrastructure, including; Multi-Cloud based infrastructure, Systems Software Support, Data Management, Security / Compliance, Disaster Recovery, Office IT infrastructure, Client Computing, Telecommunications, Help Desk
  • Define a strategic roadmap that takes into account business needs and leverages new technology opportunities, defining and maintaining a set of technology standards which are consistent with our overall architectural design.
  • Ensure awareness and engagement throughout the organization in relation to strategy, issues, and progress of the IT organization. 
  • Communicate effectively, and advise and influence peers and key stakeholders on strategic technology directions.
  • Establish and manage senior level technical relationships with strategic IT vendors to feed the innovation process as well as ensure global delivery of initiatives.
  • Provide overall leadership and direction to establish and manage a proactive performance management program encompassing capacity planning, enterprise monitoring, effective change management, analysis for root cause identification and timely issue resolution.
  • Maintain credible opinions and make recommendations on new technologies, industry trends, infrastructure best practices, tools and techniques (virtual, cloud computing, strategic sourcing etc.) that will drive business value.
  • Work with Product, Engineering, and Support to ensure prioritization, engagement, and coordination of work.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, vendors, industry consultants, and senior leadership to ensure commitment and support for IT Infrastructure initiatives and programs. Negotiate, conclude, implement and continuously benchmark service agreements and contracts. Perform selection and management of Infrastructure Service Suppliers.
  • Maintain a security-first culture and execute an Information Security and Compliance Strategy that aligns with the business needs.
  • Establish the systems and processes to ensure business continuity in the event of natural disaster, system failures and other events which could disrupt business.
  • Ensure business continuity and delivery of scalable, high performing and highly reliable IT infrastructure across the enterprise through the establishment of metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs).

The ideal candidate

  • Master’s degree in computer science strongly preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ year’s hands-on experience in an enterprise environment deploying and supporting scalable and high availability infrastructure (Chef, Salt, Ansible)
  • 5+ year’s management experience
  • 5+ year’s experience in a security-related thought leadership or management capacity (CISSP or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ year’s experience leading infrastructure efforts in a Multi-cloud production high-traffic environment
  • Proven track record of building and leading an infrastructure team 
  • Experience in implementing technical aspects of compliance programs for PCI and HIPAA
  • Coordinate team resources to diagnose and resolve operational issues that involve hardware, storage, networking troubleshooting and infrastructure issues
  • Able to organize and delivering briefings to managers on the status of infrastructure projects/operations
  • Proficiency in budgeting, planning, scheduling, and executing projects in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Experience with large scale Ruby on Rails app deployments
  • Experience with database technologies such as MySQL, Redis, Postgres, ElasticSearch
  • Strong Linux or UNIX background
  • Ability to work closely with teammates to implement technology, troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Proactively assesses impacts of decisions or changes; quickly comprehends implications of actions – can think several steps ahead; zeros in on critical information; see subtleties among issues; recognizes the complexity and sets personal biases aside; uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems.
  • Speaks and writes clearly and effectively even when relating complex information; proactively shares information within and across the organization; listens actively.
  • Able to quickly troubleshoot networking issues
  • Experience with virtualization technologies is a plus
