Video Engineer
We’re looking for an IT Video Engineer to join Snap Inc! Working closely with the IT team, you will work directly with our Event Planners and Technical Producers to support large format graphics devices, video production, streaming infrastructure, operational execution, and VOD management. Ideal candidates are passionate about video streaming technologies, live event production support, and customer service. This is a full-time position based in Los Angeles, CA.
What you’ll do:
Reviews IT requests and provides technical direction for the planning, scheduling, and delivery of streaming services
Liaise with Snap video engineering teams, applying significant knowledge of industry trends and developments to improve service to our customers
Directs and oversees work of Streaming and Video Production Vendors
Provision Infrastructure to support integrations across streaming and video systems
Contribute code towards automation efforts to reduce manual processes for the Audio/Visual operations team
Owns streaming platform service levels and proactive health monitoring
Cultivate a network of global event streaming resources and provide IT Management with reports on vendor performance and capabilities
Keeps IT Events Manager well informed of status of event support efforts and serves as a liaison between vendors, customers, and cross functional partners
Owns the technical support lifecycle and is responsible for managing technical risks throughout support, planning, and delivery
Communicates and enforces Snap standards, creating and defining new standards as technology and scope evolves
Helps identify and vet in region resources including, but not limited to, video and streaming service providers, venues, and infrastructure support
Manages technical resources within budget and customer support schedule
Provides clear documentation for operational teams and Infrastructure runbooks
Consistently delivers high-quality, high impact services to customers
Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
Preferred qualifications:
Advanced knowledge and experience working with communication protocols (HTTP, TCP/IP, UDP, TS via Multicast, RTMP, and others) for live streaming delivery over the leading content distribution networks (e.g., Akamai, Level3, etc.)
Advanced knowledge and experience working with Video Codec and compression standards (H.264, MPEG, etc)
Experience working with Unified Communication technologies such as SIP, VOIP, H.323, and WebRTC
Experience acting as an equipment operator for live events for production environments
Experience working with Linux, Windows, Chrome, and MacOS operating systems
Experience leveraging Bash, Python, and Git
Experience with vendor assessment and management
Understands the benefits of the various event formats (Q&A, Training, Town Hall, Broadcast, and others), as well as how to execute these formats flawlessly
Knowledge of technical event support system architectures
Experience working with media formats on mobile, tablet, desktop, and OTT devices
