Senior Network Engineer
THE PURPOSE:
Our Senior Network Engineer reports directly to the IT Director and will work with the internal IT organization in the delivery and support of core IT services. Additionally, this role will partner with our engineering groups to provide the infrastructure that helps enable their organizational goals.
THE ROLE:
The Senior Network Engineer’s role is primarily to ensure the stability and integrity of Virgin Hyperloop’s global network. We are expanding locally and around the global. As a result, we need to design and continually adjust the network for expansion, security, increased requirements and flexibility. The exciting and challenging part of this position is working for a large start-up where the only constant is change. Are you the person who can help us design our future today?
What will you be doing?
• Planning and implementing network architecture that is highly scalable and secure
• Working with a Juniper Edge with a Cisco Core and Access layers
• Drive best practices in networking and network security
• Research and architect network changes to benefit the VHO’s core business
THE CANDIDATE:
We are looking for a self-motivated person who can work independently as well as collaboratively with a high-functioning IT team. Your entrepreneurial drive in support of company initiatives will help us deliver best in class networks company wide. You will be proficient at proactively identifying business risks and opportunities in a constantly changing environment where you embrace the ambiguity and work well under pressure. On an hourly and sometimes minute to minute basis, we need someone who can correctly prioritize the urgent from the important and think about the team and the organization holistically, while individually Getting S*** Done (GSD). If you have a high GSD factor, can work well with others and put your toys back where you got them, we’d love to talk to you!
MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
• Deep understanding of Layer 2 and 3 routing and switching (e.g. STP, MC-LAC, OSPF, BGP, Multicast and Policy-Based Routing)
• Experience in Cisco Identity Management
• Deep knowledge of Cisco ASA especially the FirePower
• Cisco switching experience including N3k, 3800 and 2900 series
• Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices
• Experience deploying & troubleshooting IPSEC, GRE with Palo Alto, Juniper and Cisco
• Able to setup VPC’s, VNET’s, ELB, etc in AWS, Azure and/or Google Cloud
• Proven experience in systems and network design and development
• Extensive operational experience orchestrating multi-vendor network devices
• Experience managing and expanding global networks
• Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
• Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
• conducting research into networking issues and products as required
• Juniper and other industry certifications
• Enjoys mentoring other team members
• Able to pivot from a formal vendor meeting, crawling under a test rig for some layer 1 work, then programming QoS; all before lunch! Wardrobe change optional
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Professional Level Network Certification – CCNP Routing and Switching or equivalent
• Some experience with SDWAN, CDN and WAN Optimization
• University degree in Computer Science or related field
• Linux experience
• PHP or other scripting language
• A love of IoT
