Director, Operations Military Business Unit- Western Region

Boingo is looking for a highly energetic and customer focused leader with vast experience in building and operating large-scale networks, as well as managing people in remote locations.  Responsibilities will include leading a team of field representatives in the daily upkeep and operation of multiple networks, predominantly within government locations, that support Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and/or Private Networking\Services.  Our networks are comprised of DIA\ISP circuits, fiber or millimeter wave wireless backhaul, PoE switches, and Access Points.  Typically, this position is remote which allows the right candidate to work from home when not traveling within the assigned region. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage large regional upgrades/modifications to our neutral host systems with multiple installation and integration partners and employees across military bases, airports, and stadiums
  • Direct, coach, and develop the region’s field team consisting of Field Operations Managers and Field Engineers to include account/escalation management of base command to meet Boingo’s business needs
  • Overall financial management and accountability for assigned region(s) to track use of company’s expense against P&L statement
  • Direct regional personnel in the management of system lifecycle of region venues
  • Allocate resources across the region as new venues, systems, or feature sets are deployed
  • Work with peer leadership within cross-functional teams in efforts to steer the maintenance of existing accounts, improve customer satisfaction and grow revenue, while maintaining budgets to ensure optimal profitability

 Requirements

  • Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects through different contractors and multiple employee groups required
  • Must have proven ability to schedule complex projects to deliver them on time and under budget
  • Need to be technically inclined, and understand the basics of telecom networks
  • Must understand how to maintain live networks to include 3 years’ experience in dealing with 24/7/365 operations for service restoration, upgrades, and performance monitoring
  • Must be able to gather and organize data, then make logical decisions based on that data and implement a solution
  • Extensive experience managing and leading people in geographically diverse areas
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must have proven ability to work in a matrix organization to get the job done
  • Knowledge of networking (e.g., LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, fiber transport and wireless backhaul)
  • Must be willing to travel within assigned regions
  • Drive Boingo’s culture of empowerment and training to develop employees into roles of greater roles of responsibility as we scale our business
  • Leveraging relationships and industry contacts to onboard 3rd party resources to meet the needs of the business (e.g., construction, installation, and maintenance vendors)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, computer science, project/construction management preferred and/or a minimum of 8 years of project management experience (telecom network projects experience required)

Nice to haves

  • Experience dealing with military installation departments
  • Cisco CCNA or above is a big plus!
  • PMP Certification
  • Scrum Master Certification
