We are hiring a Head of Supply Chain to help us realize our mission to better the lives of animals by building a place that’s better for all of us who love them. Acting as a strategic and operational partner across the organization, this role will be responsible for leading the organization's operational sourcing, logistics, warehousing, contracting, and negotiations on a national scale.


Specifically, this person will be accountable for building our overall supply chain operations, including purchasing and inventory of all materials, selection of vendors, and distribution of goods, while maintaining and optimizing these areas over time. Our ideal candidate is a data-oriented individual who's confident leading complex strategic projects to execution, no matter the size or scope.


The leader in this role thrives in an energetic, fast-paced environment with a diverse group of professionals across levels, is extremely well organized, flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, and operates with the highest level of professionalism. This individual is effective at leading teams directly across functions, and influencing indirect reports and peers across the organization.


In this role, we are looking for a leader who is passionate about pets and the people who love them, and is excited about rolling up their sleeves to bring our mission to life as we grow. This role is preferably based in Los Angeles and will require travel, local and national. This person is expected to spend some amount of time in our clinics and develop an expertise in the operational foundations of Modern Animal.

Vendor Management:

  • Demonstrated experience negotiating with vendors across the supply chain, including ensuring vendors are delivering the agreed success criteria: on time, within budget, meeting our compliance, quality and safety requirements
  • An expert at collaborating with external manufacturing and distribution partners and internal cross-functional stakeholders to develop and actualize optimal and seamless supply and demand scenarios

Supply Chain Cost Management & Analytics:


  • Demonstrated ability to establish, monitor, and analyze key supply chain drivers and performance indicators to stem continuous improvement and competitive service levels and margins: including service, quality, costs, lead times and safety
  • Capable of driving demand modeling in future ERP/planning tools through analysis of key combined datasets

Sourcing Systems & Processes:


  • Proficient in operational feasibility assessments, scenario analyses, and risk mitigation planning of supply chain
  • Capable of identifying and mitigating risks related to supply chain disruption and delays, supplier product and / or manufacturing changes and supplier inability to support current or future demands. Collaborate with key stakeholders to help solve supplier related issues (backorders, product quality concerns, new product launches, etc)
  • Experienced in system and ERP implementation, including master data, vendor pricing / contracts, procurement (purchase req / purchase order), costing and BOM, inventory costing and management, go to market and critical processes, and vendor / partner integration

Why you’d be a great fit:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree with a technical background in Business or Supply Chain related course of study
  • 7-10 years of experience in Procurement and Supply Chain Management
  • Familiarity and experience working with a broad array of vendors and distributors in the healthcare or veterinary industry, including a high level understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) processes and regulatory requirements of procuring, shipping and dispensing medications 
  • Experience with quality management systems, as well as ERP setups
  • APICS certification and/or Lean Six Sigma certification preferred
  • Strong leadership capability, with track record of motivating teams and driving their performance 
  • Adept problem solving skills, finding satisfaction from breaking down complex problems, iterating and testing solutions
  • Analytical skill-set and focus on understanding and using metrics, data and KPIs to drive decisions
  • Hands-on, can do approach and demonstrated humility, with zero hesitation to jump into any situation necessary in the field or otherwise
  • Collaborative go-getter, willing to roll-up sleeves and be hands-on
  • Exceptional organization skills and ability to manage multiple project simultaneously
  • Operate with high emotional intelligence and exceptional listening / communication skills
