Head of Facilities
Team and Role Overview:
At Relativity, we reimagine the way rockets are built and flown. We are redefining design, manufacturing and operational processes, to create the first true 21st-century aerospace company. We are looking for a Site Development Manager to join our growing team at our headquarters in Los Angeles. As Site Development Manager at Relativity, you will be responsible for Relativity’s entire site portfolio, including our new company headquarters, our manufacturing sites, our test and launch facilities. This role is particularly exciting as our facilities are a key factor in Relativity’s success, and they will evolve with our 3D-printing technology, automation of manufacturing processes, and as our volumes scale. You will report to the VP of Operations.
Outcomes and Objectives:
To help us reimagine the way rockets are built and flown, as Relativity’s Site Development Manager, you will
Own and expand Relativity’s site portfolio and the full lifecycle from leading requirements gathering to overseeing site search, design, construction, and facility moves.
Specific sites and requirements:
Short-term spillover facility for our current headquarters and manufacturing facility, to accommodate short-term needs (e.g., additional office space, additional manufacturing space; in total a roughly 30% increase of usable space for 12-18 months)
Long-term new headquarters and manufacturing facility in the LA region, to house the Relativity team and our manufacturing facilities for the coming 5-7 years. This mixed-use facility is a vital piece to the overall puzzle of Relativity’s journey to re-imagining how rockets are built.
Test and launch sites: We currently have one test facility, and are adding our first launch site. In the months to come we will build out these sites out to be the best rocket test/launch facilities in the world. We are adding further test and launch facilities over the coming years.
Be the point person to coordinate outside parties involved in our facility management, including commercial brokers, architects, general contractors, etc.
Ensure Relativity’s sites, in particular sites that are co-located with federal facilities (e.g., our test site at NASA Stennis) are built out according to the specifications and guidelines as posted by NASA.
Lead by example in terms of focus on timelines, quality, and cost control. You are always thoroughly challenging the speed-quality-cost triangle and creative in finding the optimal trade-offs.
Work cross-functionally to ensure all technical requirements are captured and assessed.
Candidate Profile:
To be successful in this role, you should have 7+ years of experience in full-cycle site development, including requirements definition, search, design, construction management, and continuous facility improvements. You are customer-centric, and excel at driving complex discussions through clear, results-oriented process-thinking. You are able to articulate goals and rally everyone around you to focus on these goals, be it team members, colleagues, or outside parties. Pressure around timelines, cost, and quality unleash the best in you, and you find creative ways to optimize across trade-offs.
You are passionate about creating facilities that are highly functional, aesthetically appealing, and provide the platform for companies to continuously evolve. While a variety of expertise is required for the role, it is clearly a learning trajectory, and a passion to dive into new areas and master them quickly is an absolute must. You thrive in ambiguous environments, are passionate about building structure from scratch, and have an untiring focus on excellent results.
