We are looking for a manager to join the editorial team for Happening Now, our newly launched news project. You’ll have a key role in overseeing the day-to-day operations for a new and fast-growing initiative working with major publishers, product, engineering, and an in-house team of producers, editors and curators to create the fastest place for Snapchatters to get their news. This role reports directly to the head of Happening Now, and will be based in our Los Angeles office.
This role will include a schedule that will involve weekend and evening work.
What you’ll do:
Play a key role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of a fast-moving news product
Oversee a team of editors, producers and curators, and make final calls on editorial decisions
Use data alongside your well-developed news judgement to help us grow and achieve our goals
Work hand-in-hand with our partners at major publishers and media companies to help them be successful
Think creatively and enthusiastically about how to evolve the news experience on Snapchat
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Deep understanding of newsroom best practices and ethics
Advanced copywriting and editing skills: a keen eye for typos, a knack for sharp, concise writing, and the ability to coach less experienced team members
A good eye: the ability to work with designers to create visually appealing products
Excellent editorial judgment, and the ability to identify and produce stories that will resonate with Snapchat’s audience and be inclusive to all
Enthusiasm and energy to grow, experiment and iterate on a new and evolving project
Ability to work fast, hit deadlines, multi-task and stay calm under pressure
A highly motivated team player who thrives in a collaborative environment, but also works well autonomously
Enthusiasm for a variable schedule that will include early, late and weekend shifts
A college degree or equivalent experience in a similar role
At least 7 years experience in writing, editing, video production or other similar roles in digital media.
2+ years experience managing people and teams
Video production and editing skills (Premiere, After Effects) are a strong plus
