OVERVIEW:

The Cloud Administrator is a critical role at Stamps.com as it focuses on the ongoing operation, implementation, and maintenance of company’s IT infrastructure. The role provides an opportunity and challenge to work in a high transaction, highly available and complex environment. Cloud Administrators are responsible for solving moderate to complex problems while operating under moderate supervision and with some latitude for independent judgement.

Post COVID, this role will be required to report to the company’s worksite location

The Cloud Administration team operates under the larger IT department. The Cloud administration team’s primary responsibility is the uptime, monitoring, and maintenance of all Stamps.com production environments.  This includes both our on premise and cloud-based datacenters.  The team is also responsible for troubleshooting production issues, preventative maintenance, backups, and security remediation.  The team works closely with Development, Database and QA teams to support new releases and infrastructure projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Objectives:

  1. Uptime and monitoring of the production environments.
  2. Manage AWS infrastructure for a high-traffic production environment.
  3. Manage servers and services in production environment and ensure service availability.
  4. Develop and strictly adhere to operational policies, procedures controls and standards.
  5. Deploy automation to implement operational tasks, jobs, reports etc.
  6. Maintain top quality technical skills in a broad range of IT topics and products/tools etc.
  7. Provide IT support and work closely with other technical teams, Development, QA, Database and Operations.

Essential Position Duties:

  1. Uptime and monitoring of the production environments
    • Manage and maintain monitoring/alerting tools such as Nagios, Splunk, Cloudwatch, PagerDuty, and Grafana
    • Track KPIs and troubleshoot system performance issues
    • Continuously improve department compliance and policy adherence while maintaining 99.99+% uptime.
  2. Manage AWS infrastructure for a high-traffic production environment
    • Work with existing solutions that span AWS and multiple Data Centers
    • Work with the existing technologies we leverage such as EBS, EC2, S3, Powershell, Python as well as research and implement new tools/technologies
    • General networking and security troubleshooting (firewalls, routing, NAT, etc.)
  3. Manage servers and services in production environment and ensure service availability.
    • Troubleshoot problems, outages and performance issues.
    • Software deployment and troubleshooting
    • Maintain regular backups of critical data via Rubrik and AWS based solutions
    • Understand the technologies being used in the environment.
    • Periodically review monitoring setup/coverage and thresholds.
    • Ensure OS/machines/tools are upgraded periodically.
    • Perform regular maintenance of licenses, certificates, patches, ciphers etc.
    • Create and maintain robust documentation/knowledgebase for all new servers/projects.
  4. Develop and strictly adhere to operational policies, procedures, controls and standards.
    • Develop new policies, standards and principals as the environment evolves.
    • Ensure system design complies with policies, standards and principals.
    • Confirm servers meet PCI, SOX and other compliance requirements.
    • Perform audits and security reviews to ensure consistency in configuration/setup.
    • Develop and implement patching/upgrade strategy for all software/devices.
  5. Deploy automation to implement operational tasks, jobs, reports etc.
    • Design solutions for enforcing uniform environments, monitor environment drifts.
    • Deploy configuration management and auditing tools.
    • Deploy Infrastructure as Code to ensure consistency.
    • Adhere to best practices and standards when creating scripts.
    • Create frameworks and standards for operational processes/jobs/scripts.
    • Own the development, deployment and on-going management of operational tasks, jobs, scripts etc.
    • Work with Dev/QA to maintain fully automated CI/CD pipeline using Jenkins, Ansible, Git etc.
  6. Maintain top quality technical skills in a broad range of IT topics and products/tools etc.
    • Research and implement relevant tools and technologies for managing and monitoring infrastructure.
    • Keep up-to-date understanding and knowledge of new tools/techniques.
    • Maintain understanding of changes in AWS and adhere to the AWS best practices.
    • Keep up with the latest developments in industry trends.
    • Understand differences in best practices between on-prem, cloud and hybrid deployments.
  7. Provide IT support and work closely with other technical teams such as Development, QA and Database.
    • Help with troubleshooting issues in all environments (Dev, QA, etc).
    • Provide guidance, tools, scripts, SOPs and support to other departments.
    • Work with Development and Database teams to design and implement new solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:                                                            

  • Bachelors’ Degree in computer science, engineering or related discipline or equivalent practical experience.
  • Four or More (4+) years of progressive IT experience in high-traffic production environment.
  • Four or More (4+) years of experience working with Windows Servers, SQL servers.
  • Four or More (4+) years of hands-on experience working in AWS in production setting.

Cloud Services Proficiency:

  • Amazon Web Services – EC2, S3, EBS, Cloudfront, Route53, Lambda.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Sufficiently skilled and proficient at working in high-transaction production environment
  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft Windows, SQL, AD, etc.
  • Clear understanding of Networking and server technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of securing servers and infrastructure.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to multitask effectively.
  • Proactively seeking, identifying, exploring and resolving technology gaps in the production networks, systems and services.
  • Triaging system and application emergencies including downtime reporting and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and drive root cause analysis (RCA) and issue resolution.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to changes and new ideas.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate well with different types of audiences.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate urgency when there are customer impacting issues.
