Programmatic Director

While our programmatic teams are a part of a broader programmatic community dedicated to shaping best practices, our individual trading teams work directly with their agency counterparts to create and execute campaigns that support our clients overall marketing objectives.
Job Description
The Director position reports directly in the Programmatic Agency Lead. The role is responsible for overseeing the overall health and success of their respective account(s) and is expected to also contribute to supporting GroupM’s broader Programmatic Practice. Within this role you’ll be responsible for owning the business relationship with your client, agency and team in addition to ensuring the successful delivery of programmatic campaigns. The primary responsibilities of the role include the management of the programmatic team and fostering strong relationships with respective digital agency counterparts, clients and external partners. The Director is also expected to be the team’s source of expertise and point of escalation for all aspects of the execution of a programmatic campaign including implementation, optimization and inventory and audience strategy. While the role typically does not require day to day trading of campaigns as part of their normal responsibility, the expectation is that they should be able to do so if and when required.

 

Programmatic Directors are typically responsible for overseeing the day to day workload, training and career development of between 3-8 reports.

 

Responsibilities

  • Owning the business relationship for the account and driving growth of programmatic utilization and investment
  • Working directly with client and account leads to define the role of programmatic within a client’s digital strategy and create the frameworks to see it effectively executed
  • Working with agency leads to manage client SOWs and staffing plans to ensure teams are appropriately resourced relative to volume of revenue, complexity and overall workload
  • Preparing and delivering presentations directly to clients or key agency stakeholders including QBRs, key campaign recaps and future planning initiatives
  • Educating clients and agency teams as the landscape evolves to ensure they are aware of new media opportunities that can be activated programmatically
  • Providing strategic partner recommendations to clients including DSP, DMP, Verification and other similar platforms in conjunction with account leads
  • Overseeing the management of campaigns to ensure they consistent meet or exceed client KPIs
  • Holding members of the team accountable to flawless execution of campaign implementation and developing the QA processes that allow them to do so
  • Owning relationships and with members of the broader digital account teams including planning, investment, operations and analytics
  • Leveraging relationships with platform, inventory and data providers to maximize their value specific to an account needs
  • Acting as the team’s central point of expertise and escalation to address challenges as they arise and keeping agency programmatic lead informed of overall status of the team
  • Ongoing training and support of the career growth of direct reports
  • Developing best practices that improve the quality or efficiency of work within an account or broader agency programmatic team
  • Developing POVs, Presentations or other shareable collateral that improves the overall level of programmatic education across programmatic and digital teams
  • Responding to New Business Briefs and providing broader support Agency Lead for larger presentations, projects or pitches

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a concentration in advertising, marketing, economics, finance, computer science, mathematics or engineering
  • 7+ Years of relevant career experience, with 3+ years’ experience trading programmatic campaigns at an agency, brand, DSP or Ad Network strongly preferred.
  • Other Programmatic functions, Paid Search, Paid Social, Ad Operations, Digital Analytics or Digital Planning or client-side roles supporting a direct response or e-commerce brand may also be considered for high qualified candidates.
  • Past team management experience is required
  • Strong familiarity with key programmatic and digital platforms
  • Understanding and knowledge of key industry concepts and trends
  • Perspective of current and future state of programmatic as a media channel
  • Advanced Excel User (Pivot Tables, Joining Data Sets, Complex Formulas, etc.)
  • Experience with other database, visualization tools or coding languages is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and detail oriented mindset
  • Strong presentation skills and comfort presenting to senior stakeholders
  • Strong analytical abilities and quantitative skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Natural curiosity and desire to continuously learn
