Who is Bird

At Bird, we’re on a mission to make cities more livable by reducing traffic and carbon emissions with an affordable, convenient, and eco-friendly transportation option. We planted roots in Los Angeles, California. Now, our fleet of electric scooters is available to riders in cities around the world for short trips or the “last mile” of their journey. In our first year, Bird launched in over 100 cities and provided over 10 million rides. And we’re only just getting started.

The Director, Marketing will promote the brand identity through marketing strategies and brand campaigns for Bird. We are seeking an individual who is a creative and innovator at heart, and who can execute the marketing strategy across a variety of channels, build the brand, and increase recognition. As the Director, Marketing, you should be an expert in developing creative and unique stories to build a brand that is second to none. You will lead a team to develop and execute brand initiatives that activate, engage, and retain Bird audiences around the world.

What You'll Do

  • Ideate and execute an overarching marketing strategy based on business priorities
  • Build cohesive marketing campaigns that resonate with users across the country
  • Collaborate with various teams including Government and Public Affairs to produce marketing materials focused on relevant policy initiatives
  • Develop brand strategies that move audiences from general awareness to deeper engagement
  • Ideate and execute an overarching marketing strategy based on business priorities
  • Lead, educate and motivate a small team while also taking ownership; we’re a start up so we need someone who can roll up their sleeves, too
  • Research evolving consumer behavior and drivers that make Bird a lifestyle brand
  • Develop campaign ideas and work to bring an idea to life across multiple channels
  • Create cultural campaigns that speak to customers, both local and worldwide
  • Evaluate and create unique events, community initiatives, partnerships, and cross-promotion opportunities
  • Gather insights and leverage data to inspire and improve creative concepts
  • Determine a marketing cadence and creative point-of-view around customer mindsets, holidays, and major events
  • Develop a social media strategy and manage the social media channels (YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, etc.) to increase followers, engagement, and new riders
  • Determine where, when, and how Bird will interact with consumers, driving an innovative mix of all marketing channels
  • Collaborate with internal creative team and external agencies in developing the brand creative and content, maintaining high standards for storytelling and craftsmanship

What You'll Have

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, MBA preferred
  • 7+ years of consumer marketing experience at a fast growing company that has scaled
  • 5+ years working with small-to-medium companies and brands
  • 5+ years managing a team
  • Passion for Bird’s mission of reducing traffic and carbon emissions while offering fun, alternative transportation options!

What You'll Need

  • Track record of developing innovative, strategic brand marketing plans, marketing campaigns, and development of creative materials
  • Creative resourcefulness: you conceptualize and create marketing material that captures users in a practical and efficient way
  • Experience creating marketing plans for digital and social media
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence while driving results through teamwork and collaboration
  • Experience developing scalable marketing strategies that balance present needs as well as future function
  • Experience creating and leading a brand marketing strategy from the ground up, preferably for a rapid-growth, consumer brand
  • Capable of making tough, fast decisions based on business objectives
  • Experience operating with limited resources, shifting priorities, and competing deadlines
  • Ability to take ambiguous needs and develop actionable plans
  • Experience recruiting, mentoring, and inspiring a team in a dynamic environment
  • History working with and leading creative agencies
  • Ability to effectively present to and advocate for ideas with senior management
  • Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders at all levels of the business
  • Strategic, data-driven mindset with the proven ability to drive brand awareness and product adoption
  • Exceptional communicator with the ability to build relationships and influence teams
  • Naturally collaborative with experience in cross-functional brand production, partnering with business stakeholders, and coordinating external vendors
  • Track record of taking educated risks to challenge the status quo and push boundaries
  • Capable of pushing back on ideas and justifying creative decisions
  • Exceptional communication skills
