Director of Content & Retention Marketing
System1 is looking for a Director of Content & Retention to join our team. The Director of Content & Retention Marketing is a critical new role on System1’s social publishing team. Our business currently drives large scale user acquisition efforts with an engaging trivia experience. This role will be positioned to help drive our efforts to evolve our model as we strive to improve our content quality; create processes that facilitate bespoke content production for our various audience segments; grow direct communication lines with our users via existing opportunities (email, push notifications and social), and market new product experiences to our users (gamification and logged in experience).
A successful candidate will have extensive experience managing content production & marketing efforts for a digital publisher and a strong understanding of retention marketing mechanisms that can improve user experience and drive ongoing engagement.
The role will be based in either our Bellevue, WA or Venice, CA office. System 1
THE ROLE YOU WILL HAVE
- Content production
- Direct a team that manages the ongoing production of trivia content, fostering a culture that empowers the team to drive the editorial strategy for multiple verticals & audience types
- Ensure that content creation processes are structured in an efficient manner, appropriately leveraging in-house vs. freelance capabilities
- Drive editorial thought leadership as the business expands beyond existing trivia formats
- Retention Marketing
- Develop best practices as we build out retention marketing staff and efforts that complement our large scale user acquisition efforts
- Ensure that we are creating appropriate content and deploying it to our audience segments in a way that re-engages them via email marketing, push notification and social media
- Drive user communications and marketing hooks that leverage our gamified trivia experience (points system, logged in experience, badging/leaderboards, sweepstakes)
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- 7+ years of content and / or retention marketing experience in a digital media and / or casual games environment
- At least 3 years of management experience with a strong desire to lead a team & create a culture where team members are empowered and accountable for well communicated objectives
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across different teams and functions, including asking intelligent questions to gain understanding and spark additional questions
- Must be a problem solver who is able to successfully juggle a lot of different tasks at one time
- Strong ability to interpret data and drive appropriate feedback loop
- Direct experience managing loyalty programs (points system w/ rewards) a big plus
