We are seeking a talented Level Designer to join our dynamic team and help shape the next generation of platforming games. As a Level Designer at Mythical Games, you will be instrumental in designing and developing captivating maps for our platforming game. You will work closely with a talented team of designers, artists, and engineers to bring your creative visions to life. This is a remote position, offering you the flexibility to work from anywhere while contributing to our innovative projects.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and iterate on fun and engaging maps for our platforming game.
- Collaborate with the design team to ensure levels are enjoyable and immersive.
- Work with artists to transform greybox levels into visually stunning, fully realized environments.Partner with engineers to develop innovative level mechanics.
- Respond to feedback by making revisions and modifications to levels as needed.
- Playtest and refine levels to ensure a high level of playability and fun.
- Balance level difficulty to accommodate a wide range of player skills.
- Implement player feedback to continuously improve level design.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and incorporate new techniques into your designs.
- Collaborate with the QA team to identify and resolve level design issues.
- Optimize levels for performance and memory usage on mobile devices.
- Contribute to the development of the game's overall design vision and style.
Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of level design principles and what makes a game fun.
- Familiarity with game physics and how they impact level design.
- Ability to create and maintain detailed level design documentation.
- Passion for gaming and a deep understanding of player behavior and motivations.
- Experience in building mobile games is preferred.
- Proficiency with Unity, especially with the prefab system and scriptable objects.
- Experience using version control systems like Git.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
- Comfortable with communication and collaboration tools like Slack.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in game design or related field is a plus, but not required.
- Prior experience in a similar role is preferred, but not required.
- Experience with user-generated content platforms and community engagement.
- Knowledge of procedural content generation techniques.
- Understanding of monetization strategies in mobile games.
- Experience working on live-service games with regular content updates.

The expected base salary range for this role is based on the location where the employee’s work will be performed and is aligned to one of our three compensation pay range tiers. Base pay is just one part of Mythical Game’s total compensation package, which is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their efforts and contributions. This role is also eligible to participate in Mythical’s Corporate Bonus and Equity Plan.
Pay Ranges by Tier:
Tier 1: $96,000 - $132,000
Tier 2: $86,000 - $119,000
Tier 3: $77,000 - $106,000
Locations by Tier:
Tier 1 Locations: San Francisco Bay Area - California
Tier 2 Locations: Remainder of California (outside of the SF Bay Area), Washington state, Massachusetts state, New York state
Tier 3 Locations: All other states outside of California, Washington, Massachusetts, and New York
*The role is open to candidates in the following states on a remote basis: California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Texas & Washington
The base salary for each successful applicant will be dependent on a variety of factors, including work location, education, qualifications, competencies, relevant work experience, business needs, and market demands.
