Commercial Counsel, Content and Music
We're looking for a seasoned attorney to join Snap Inc! Working from our Los Angeles, CA headquarters, you’ll play a key role in Snap’s commercial transactions and advise teams throughout the company on legal and strategic issues spanning the breadth of Snap’s products and services, with a particular focus on content and music.
What you’ll do:
Provide tactical and strategic advice to Snap business and product leaders related to content acquisition, the development and production of original programing, and music licensing
Lead and manage all legal aspects of deals for Snap’s content initiatives, including structuring, drafting, and negotiating agreements for Snap’s premium content Discover platform, original productions (scripted and non-scripted), and music initiatives
Develop and apply policies and practices for legal compliance with laws and regulations governing the use and distribution of publisher-produced and user-generated content, including those related to privacy, copyright, trademark, defamation, and right-of-publicity, along with international regulatory requirements
Conduct pre-exhibition review of content to ensure compliance with Snap’s legal policies and risk tolerance
Coordinate with colleagues from every part of the company as part of cross-functional teams addressing the above
Minimum qualifications:
JD with excellent academic credentials
5+ years of relevant work experience working for a media company or top-tier transactional law firm/practice group specializing in complex media and digital commercial transactions
Membership in at least one state bar
Preferred qualifications:
Strong knowledge and understanding of the digital content ecosystem
Experience structuring, drafting, negotiating, and advising clients on transactions with multinational media companies, studios, production companies, guilds and unions, sports leagues, news publishers, record labels, and music publishers. Experience with a variety of exhibition windows and licensing models preferred, with an emphasis on digital
Substantial experience with First Amendment principles, media regulatory compliance, and platform regulatory compliance
Outstanding analytical, communication, organizational, negotiation, and drafting skills
Excellent legal and business judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously
Ability to accommodate tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently
Clear, concise communication skills
Strong team player, with a team first attitude
