We’re looking for an Associate General Counsel - Privacy (Law Enforcement) to join Snap Inc! As a member of the Privacy and Product Counsel team, you will primarily support the law enforcement operations team to ensure Snap meets its global legal obligations to be in compliance with government requests for data while protecting user privacy. Working from our Santa Monica, CA, headquarters, you’ll collaborate with Snap’s trust & safety, policy, engineering, and other internal partner teams to advise on and develop policies and tools to enable Snap to meet increasingly sophisticated and constantly evolving regulatory and legislative requirements!
What you’ll do:
Advise Snap's law enforcement operations and trust & safety teams on global law enforcement, legal, privacy, and security requirements
Develop and implement policies and practices that protect user personal data while following with legal data disclosure requirements globally
Collaborate with security and privacy engineering on developing groundbreaking tooling to protect user privacy while meeting legal disclosure requirements
Collaborate with and advise global policy team on legislative developments impacting Snap's law enforcement and data disclosure obligations
Advise teams across the company including policy, product, and engineering regarding global developments in surveillance and security laws
Engage with government authorities and policy makers on matters related to Snap compliance with government legal demands to address operational and policy questions, conduct training and outreach, and maintain working relationships with domestic and international law enforcement
Develop and build strategic external partner relationships, e.g., with NGOs, regulators, and government agencies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Professional experience taking care of laws related to government surveillance including the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) and equivalents from other jurisdictions
Firm understanding of the Stored Communications Act, Wiretap Act, Pen Register/Trap and Trace Statute, the U.S. Cloud Act, and the GDPR
Experience with Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty requests, Letters Rogatory, or other forms of international cooperation
Knowledge of and experience with the criminal investigative process
Extreme attention to detail, business-friendly, and a phenomenal teammate, with an ability to think creatively and accommodate tight deadlines
Excellent Legal and Business judgment and strategic thinking, and able to manage multiple matters simultaneously
Ability to adapt quickly as the legal, policy and factual landscape continues to evolve
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment and working on ground breaking legal and policy matters
Minimum Qualifications:
J.D. Degree
8+ years proven experience, including in-house and/or outside counsel advising technology companies on regulatory, security, privacy, data protection, and related matters
Preferred Qualifications:
Top Secret security clearance, or an ability and willingness to acquire one, is strongly preferred
