PMC: Director of Human Resources

Penske Media, owner of 20 media brands including LA-based Variety, Deadline and IndieWire among others, is expanding its Human Resources team with the addition of a Director of Human Resources position in our LA office.  In this role, you will be an integral member of the entire HR team as the team creates, establishes, and implements HR strategies that foster organization and people development across our rapidly growing domestic and international operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex employee relations issues including organizational and structural changes
  • Provide advice, counsel and coaching to employees regarding HR policies and procedures
  • Uncover, assess and propose opportunities for HR processes
  • Partner on the implementation (including launches) of all HR programsactivities, and annual processes such as performance management and compensation annual processes
  • Design, create and implement talent development/training programs for employees at every level
  • Support business leaders in identifying performance and engagement opportunities; identify trends in talent planning and performance management; and develop proactive strategies to address gaps
  • Oversee employee events/activities for the Los Angeles office
  • Travel to our NY office on a regular basis

 

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 6-8+ years direct Human Resources experience, including time in an HR business partner/ employee relations management role aligned with a business unit
  • Deep HR technical skills to manage employee relations and compliance issues according to US and CA employment and labor laws
  • Ability to utilize key people data to ensure our employee information is useful and accurate
  • Engaging approach to understanding and interpreting business issues and requirements: building rapport, listening, diagnosing, summarizing, and influencing
  • A “get it done” attitude – doing what it takes to move the company forward
  • Creative problem-solver
  • Highly effective presentation, facilitation and communication skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work with minimal guidance or direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the business, as well as the ability to develop strategic solutions to business challenges
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with ADP or similar HRIS a plus
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification a plus
