About BJAK

We build superior application platforms globally with the mission of creating successful businesses while contributing positively to society by making it more efficient.

We developed the first and leading insurance platform in Southeast Asia to digitize the insurance industry. The platform currently serves over 8 million users across the region. We are continuing our mission by building new, superior applications in emerging use cases as applications become increasingly integrated with AI.

Our team is densely talented, highly motivated, and focused on engineering and product excellence within a very flat organization. All members are expected to be hands-on and to contribute directly to the company’s mission.

What You'll Do

Engineering Execution

  • Help structure engineering workstreams and ensure projects move forward efficiently

  • Identify risks, unblock engineers, and maintain steady development velocity

  • Ensure high engineering standards while keeping teams focused on shipping

  • Translate product direction and technical strategy into clear engineering execution

Technical Guidance

  • Contribute to key architecture discussions and technical decisions

  • Support engineers in evaluating system design choices and implementation trade-offs

  • Ensure systems are implemented in a scalable and maintainable way

Team Building and Recruiting

  • Build and scale a strong engineering team across China, US and Europe.

  • Recruit high-quality engineers and help maintain a strong hiring bar

  • Establish structured hiring processes and interview standards

Cross-Team Coordination

  • Work closely with product, research, and leadership teams

  • Ensure alignment across different engineering efforts and locations

  • Help resolve technical and organisational bottlenecks

What You'll Need
  • Strong technical background in software engineering and system architecture

  • Experience managing or leading engineering teams

  • Ability to structure engineering work and maintain development velocity

  • Strong judgment in technical decision-making

  • Clear communication and ability to work across teams

How We Work

Our organization is very flat and our team is small, highly motivated, and focused on engineering and product excellence. All members are expected to be hands-on and to contribute directly to the company’s mission.

Code reviews and design reviews are expected for all meaningful changes. We discuss architecture openly, make decisions quickly, and ship frequently.

Product, ML, and engineering collaborate directly — there are no heavy handoffs between teams. Leadership stays close to technical work.

We favor clear ownership, simple architecture, and fast iteration. Engineers are trusted to make decisions and take responsibility for the systems they build.

Interview process

If there appears to be a fit, we'll reach to schedule 3, but no more than 4 interviews.

Applications are evaluated by our technical team members. Interviews will be conducted via virtual meetings and/or onsite.

We value transparency and efficiency, so expect a prompt decision. If you've demonstrated the exceptional skills and mindset we're looking for, the process to offer may be shorter.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
