Sr. Accounting Manager
WHAT IF...
You could deploy your top-notch finance and accounting skills towards digitizing and modernizing the world’s oldest and most fundamental industry - agriculture? PickTrace is looking for a Sr. Accounting Manager to take full ownership over day-to-day accounting and financial operations; execute on monthly financial close and reporting; oversee tax, treasury, and audit processes; and support financial planning and forecasting. This individual will be responsible for hands-on execution, as well as work closely with leadership and cross-functional colleagues to develop new best-practice procedures and playbooks for financial and revenue operations.
This role will report directly to our Chief of Staff.
WHAT WILL YOU DO
Accounting Operations and Controls
- Drive accurate and effective Accounts Payable processes, make vendor payments, conduct contract and order management, track invoices, and maintain transparent expense balances
- Reliably and accurately manage Payroll, reimbursements, benefits, bonuses, and commissions (currently through Gusto); handle recurring payments to international team members
- Develop and ensure adherence to department Budgets, expense approval procedures, and documentation expectations
- Analyze monthly Spending Trends, review areas of concerns, and collaborate with leadership on expense controls and improvements
- Drive accurate and timely Accounts Receivable processes, including invoicing customers, resolving customer billing issues, monitoring aging, conducting collections, and receiving and processing incoming payments
- Manage Banking activities and transactions, including bank deposits and credit cards
- Ensure that all transactions are properly posted to General Ledger through Quickbooks Online and maintain up-to-date Chart of Accounts
- Deliver end-to-end monthly and year-end financial Close of Books with data integrity and comprehensiveness
- Execute on GaaP Accounting, including ASC 606 revenue accounting, cost accounting, equity accounting, and inventory and lease accounting
- Develop and improve PickTrace's accounting policies, systems, procedures, and Controls to improve efficiency and effectiveness, to maintain confidentiality and trust, and to remain up-to-date with accounting rules and changes
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end Financial Reports, generating timely and complete financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements) for presentation to leadership each month, highlighting trends and discussion items
- Support external lawyers and leadership in Cap Table maintenance, option grant reporting, and equity accounting
Compliance, Audits, and Taxes
- Keep PickTrace legally up-to-date with city, county, state and federal Corporate Filings and maintains corresponding financial records
- Manage smooth Financial Audit, including developing the controls and schedules required to complete a first audit
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Provide leadership team with supportive Financial Data in the monthly financial package, for example inputs into a rolling forecast
- Collaborate with Sales department to develop operational improvements to Revenue Management to improve accounting data
- Support special projects related to Financial Insight and operations across a growing start-up
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required
- 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience
- Expertise with accounting software, in particular Quickbooks Online
- Deep understanding of accounting principles, procedures, and compliance requirements
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and Google Suite
- Experience planning, gathering buy-in, implementing, and rolling out systems, tools, and processes among cross-functional colleagues
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- CPA and public accounting experience
- Familiarity with deployment of financial technology tools including Expensify, Bill.com, Salesforce, Carta, and Gusto
- Experience in a venture-backed fast-growing start-up environment (Series A or B stages)
- Experience with Software-as-a-Service technology companies serving enterprise customers
- Experience with inventory accounting
