About the Role:

We are seeking a Controller who will be responsible for setting up and driving our accounting processes and controls as we scale. This individual will be responsible for producing accurate and timely financial statements and will help develop our data and results more quickly, and with greater accuracy, to help provide the visibility that the leadership team needs to make strategic decisions, all while strengthening our internal controls. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial mindset, experience within a startup environment, and have a passion for financial services/FinTech.

What you will be doing

• Managing daily accounting activities, including working with our external accounting firm, to ensure optimization of procedures in place to produce accurate financial information for management and external reporting purposes, compliance with U.S. GAAP, and external audits
• Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and Payroll.
• Overseeing the monthly close process and leading annual financial audits and quarterly reviews
• Partnering with the VP of Finance on strategic and operational programs to improve the efficiency of the broader accounting function, observing evolving regulations, legal and governmental requirements and industry trends that may affect the company
• Assessing current accounting operations and software, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes to accelerate close timelines
• Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and complianceProvide support for the annual budgeting and planning processRecruit, hire, and mentor team of accounting professionals as the company scales

What we are looking for

• BA/ BS in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
• 8+ years of progressive accounting management experience, including experience at both a major public accounting firm(preferably Big 4) and one or more early stage technology companies
• You have industry experience in FinTech, software/SAAS, or related technology fields
• You have a CPAYou have broad-based operational experience covering monthly, quarterly, and annual close, as well as internal, and external audits
• You have experience with integrated systems including payroll, purchasing, payables management, Billing/Accounts Receivable, and ERPs
• Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero and/or enterprise accounting systems such as NetSuite 
• You have experience of the full cycle of AP, AR, and Payroll functions, business processes and all areas of accountingAbility to operate in an early stage startup environment
