Payroll Manager
Summary
The Payroll Manager is a deadline driven role in our Accounting department and manages domestic and international payroll functions at GumGum. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Payroll manager is responsible for a critical business process that impacts all employees.
The Payroll Manager is responsible for the entire payroll process and is therefore instrumental in planning and documenting processes and ensuring deadlines are met for every payroll cycle.
Responsibilities
- Payroll Processing - Perform timely and accurate preparation of varying payroll cycles for domestic and international entities. Process and balance payrolls, ensuring all compliance reports are prepared and fully reconciled, garnishments, funding requirements for the payroll, 401k, and generating standard and ad hoc reports.
- Compliance Management - Maintain complete understanding of all applicable federal/state/international wage and hour laws related to payroll, including garnishments, benefits and taxes. Audit W-4s, payroll balance sheets, quarterly filings, YTD earnings, etc.
- End to End Payroll Process Lead - This includes:
- Prepare and maintain schedules for payroll liabilities, including wages, bonuses, commissions, taxes, and other benefits
- Maintain complete understanding of the accounting treatment for internal-use software costs related to labor
- Ensure that reporting for payroll journal entries are accurate and provided timely to the general accounting staff. Support budget and forecasting activities
- Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
- Work closely with the People Operations (Human Resources) department to ensure pay structure for all team members are accurate
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Maintain payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures
- Reporting - Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages
- System Management - Update payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department/ division transfers. Oversee processing of payroll changes (e.g. new hires, terminations, raises) and system upgrades
- Support Corporate Controller - with special projects and workflow process improvements
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in high-level payroll function
- Previous Experience with ADP
- Experience with international payroll (a plus for Canada, Japan, United Kingdom)
- Experience in tech startup environment/advertising industry a plus
- Previous experience with Payroll Systems implementation a plusAdvanced skills and experience in Excel
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to juggle multiple high priorities in a fast-paced environment and have a willingness to learn
- Process driven - can document and follow strict processes to manage accuracy and timeliness
- Ability to plan and anticipate issues and delays before critical deadlines are due
