Job Summary:
The Payroll Director will be a thought leader with a proven record of leading a Global Payroll team and delivering scalable, employee-enabling payroll services and driving individual and team accountability. Demonstrates strong leadership skills with an ability to mentor, coach and develop a high performance team to match the Company’s dynamic global environment. Ability to think big and execute nimbly in order to transform our employee experience with compliance, security and accurate reporting. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable delivering on operations goals and payroll transformation.
The Payroll Director will handle all higher level tasks such as reviewing and approving payroll and will possess international experience both technical and governance experience. A strong partner to provide support to the HR, Finance and Accounting teams.
Job Expectations:
Responsible for leading the global payroll strategy and operation and staff
Will direct training resources to be developed and deployed to employees for them to better use the tools they have in Workday.
Oversee and direct payroll reporting efforts for the organization's leadership to help them better understand and manage their workforce.
Partner with Trustees and HR on retirement plan administration,
Thorough understanding of Employee Benefits and Fringe Benefits Plans
Partners with HR and Finance providing sound business guidance and alternatives in the administration of a number of Plans, including bonus plan, Phantom Share Plan and any other cash compensation benefit plans of the organization.
A keen understanding of automation and systems providing advice and direction to drive efficiencies within the payroll processes (i.e. journal entries posted to ERP System)
Ensure that monthly reconciliation of numerous payroll related balance sheet accounts are completed
Ensures payroll is processed timely for all international employees, including, but not limited to, China, Poland, Russia and Korea
Oversees payroll implementation projects for employees hired in new countries
Ensures that Workday and ADP system upgrades and implementation of new payroll functions are completed and properly monitored and audited periodically
Responsible for the assurance that all applicable payroll laws are complied with, and payroll taxes are paid on a timely basis
Oversees the timely, accurate and compliant global payrolls for various company audits including 401k, Workers Comp, and Corporate audits
Ability to make decisions based on the needs of the company and legal compliance
Stay up to date on new laws and local compliance for all locations.
Periodically meet with with payroll service provider to ensure fees are appropriately charged
Possesses a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
Directs and oversees an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
Directs periodic audits of employee 401k loans data to ensure the accuracy of data against 401k administrator’s system to ensure payments are accurately deducted on paychecks
Oversees department budget and forecasting activities
Ensures department staff performance meets or exceeds company standards
Grow the existing North American payroll team and oversee continuous evaluation of our payroll partners, develop talent and advance technology investments
Active leadership on finance strategic initiatives and change management in support of corporate growth and optimization, including new locations, mergers/acquisitions, and additional services as required
Increase scale, capacity and proficiency of the North America payroll team
Support Corporate Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experienced in Audit procedures and Tax Compliance
10 + years of multi-disciplinary, global experience including payroll, shared services, outsourcing, vendor management, customer and/or employee services
Experience operating and scaling employee services transformation, shared services, project management, systems implementation, acquisition integration and demonstrated deployment of advanced digital finance technologies such as analytics, automation, etc.
Experience working and collaborating in a cross-functional global environment
Leadership experience aligning visions, goals and resources and delivering results
Communication experience and experience in iterative process and technology development and project deployment
Equipment Knowledge:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Experience with ADP Workforce Now, Workday or other HRIS / Payroll systems.
Experience Requirements:
Generally requires a minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of payroll experience with at least four (4) years in an upper management role.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred, or a combination of education and equivalent work experience. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
