The role:
As Director of Finance, you'll oversee all aspects of Aspiration’s financial and accounting activities. This will include creating the analytical framework that supports key strategic positions – focusing on budgeting, tactics, allocation of resources, fundraising and investor relations.  You’ll work closely with Aspiration’s CEO and team leads (Operations, Growth, Technology & Product) as well as key external stakeholders, including our Board of Directors, regulatory bodies as well as key commercial partners, in order to establish and maintain financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting to ensure the soundness of the Aspiration entities.

You have proven success in a fast-paced and demanding company. You’ve created financial models and forecasts, managed budgets, presented to company boards and supported fundraising. You’re someone who sees the necessity of a solid financial foundation, and is able to work closely with other team leads to create better strategies and decisions. You’re comfortable taking full ownership of our corporate books and records.  You’re excited to jump in and support the accounting function from oversight of the daily Quickbooks entries to high level tax and compliance planning. You make the world of complex finance digestible while maintaining an eye for detail.


You will be responsible for:

  • Managing and participating in financial reporting to CEO, board members, and investors as needed
  • Financial planning and budget management: creating annual and three-year budget framework, maintaining and updating forecast through year against budget; Monitoring and analyzing monthly operating results against budget
  • Providing leadership with recommendations and guidance on the financial impact of various products and initiatives
  • Working with growth and marketing to target resource allocation so target customers are successfully acquired, non-target customers minimized
  • Own the company’s financial compliance framework to ensure accounting, regulatory and tax compliance
  • Develop and maintain a framework of relevant accounting policies and procedures reflecting the underlying economic realities of the business
  • Mapping and tracking projected operational metrics and fundraising expectations
  • Creating framework to measure and monitor performance against operational metrics that support strategy
  • Working with senior management to evaluate the revenue, profit and value creation potential of product conversion and new product introduction
  • Owning the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close and reporting package
  • Ensuring that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
  • Understanding all necessary tax filings for Inc. company so that minimal outside tax engagement is necessary  
  • Managing the P&L Consolidation process, developing insights into financial performance
  • Managing global operating expense
  • Owning the company’s financial compliance framework to ensure accounting, regulatory and tax compliance
  • Overseeing the audit of the parent company and assisting with the audit of subsidiary  
  • Assisting with onboarding of new employees and ongoing management of payroll
  • Corresponding with contractors, partners and vendors as needed to manage accounts payable
  • Assisting FinOp and Chief Compliance Officer with management of transactions between parent company and broker dealer subsidiary
  • Ad hoc projects and analysis as requested


Required Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in in Finance, Accounting or Business with strong accounting experience; (Masters degree and CPA preferred)
  • Prior experience as financial manager
  • Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles included in GAAP
  • 4+ years in public accounting and/or financial role in high growth companies
  • Attention to detail and desire to have accurate, timely and meaningful reporting
  • Experience and comfort working with Quickbooks
  • Experience with financial system upgrade and implementation
  • Experience and familiarity with audit of financial companies, investment funds or broker dealers preferred
  • Understanding of the FinTech landscape, experience in financial services industry
