WHO WE ARE

We are PickTrace, an early-stage software start-up that provides workforce and harvest management solutions for large-scale farms. We are a YCombinator company that has raised $15M in Series A funding. We are building the farm management system of the future. Today, we serve some of the largest berry, citrus, and apple growers in the United States and internationally, and our application is used by tens of thousands of farmworkers each day.

VP of Engineering at PickTrace owns a team of backend, frontend, android engineers, and SDET. While you are technically credible and know the details of what engineers work on, your focus is spent on developing high levels of psychological safety so every engineer feels safe to speak up, hiring a world-class team, and putting them in the best position to succeed. You own the delivery of product commitments and are always looking to improve the efficiency of the team. We are a lean team and you will coordinate across departments to accomplish collaborative business goals.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

  • Lead, coach, develop, and support our highly-talented Engineering team to foster a high performance culture.
  • Evolve our technology vision & strategy, while driving the evolution of our service-orientated architecture, and make appropriate technology decisions that maximise ROI for the business.
  • Build trusting relationships and collaborate cross departmentally to execute on company/product strategy.
  • Enable a culture of innovation, collaboration, speed and excellence while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of our engineering organizationImplement processes and metrics to ensure that the team is extremely efficient and focused.
  • Take a hands-on approach to the entire software development lifecycle: perform day-to-day project management to ensure successful, on-time releases; demonstrate ownership and accountability for the team’s delivery.
  • Manage the delivery of software using Agile.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • BS, MS or Ph.D in Computer Science or similar technical discipline.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams during the evolution of the Engineering function from early to mid-stage business. 
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully hiring, managing, coaching and retaining a world-class distributed team of engineers & engineering managers. 
  • History of developing empowered teams, leading through managers and enabling engineers to have strategic impact in the business.
  • Recent experience developing cloud-based enterprise SaaS products that leverage web & mobile platforms.
  • Familiarity working with event-based microservices architectures. 
  • Demonstrates strong business acumen with articulate written and verbal communication.

Location

We're a fully remote environment, but still have a small HQ office in Glendale in case our team ever wants to work together for a day or need a central meeting spot before leaving for a team event.
