Divergent 3D is on a mission to democratize the design and manufacture of vehicles. We want to enable a future where small entrepreneurial teams across the globe will bring increasingly material and energy efficient transportation solutions to market with a fraction of the capital and time.

The current auto manufacturing system is economically and environmentally broken. Divergent invented a manufacturing system that combines software, additive manufacturing, and assembly technologies to radically reduce the material, energy, time and capital required to design and build vehicles. This will transform the automotive industry from capital intensive to innovation intensive while dramatically reducing the lifecycle environmental impact of vehicles. Over the past two years, the company has been recognized for its disruptive innovation, receiving the Frost & Sullivan Innovation of the Year and the inaugural Petersen Innovation in the Automotive Industry awards as well as being named a Google Moonshot company.

The Role: Vehicle Structures Engineer - Design

Divergent is seeking and experienced and motivated engineer to support the next generation of industry-leading vehicle structural architecture development. We’re committed to transforming the vehicle structural systems away from traditional body in white to a 3D printing enabled system using new materials and new technologies. To do this, we need a forward-looking and innovative engineer who will help shape the future of automotive structures.

What You Will Do:

• Design and analyze Node™-based vehicle structures using hand calculations, topology optimization and CAD/CAE tools.

• Create, refine and execute new technical solutions for vehicle structures to support internal vehicle programs and joint development efforts with external customers.

• Develop updated structural designs for and perform engineering analysis on existing programs.

• Partner with manufacturing engineers to understand manufacturing capabilities and limitations to ensure designs can be efficiently produced and assembled

• Engage in a high level of productive interfacing with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand system designs and the associated constraints

• Execute engineering design release of structural components and subsystems.

• Work collaboratively in a team environment within the Structures team and cross- functionally with other disciplines to efficiently design and release structures that are optimized for mass, efficient production and assembly.

• Work cross-functionally to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and support prototype and production build activities.

What You Have:

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

• Designed, analyzed, tested and released structural components or systems for automotive or aerospace vehicles with an additive focus

• Recent experience using advanced materials (composites, adhesives, metals) to achieve lightweight structural solutions

• 5+ years proven track record of shipping innovative, robust and maintainable commercial products through a full cycle development process

• 5+ years of CAD and CAE experience - performed detailed engineering analysis on structural components and systems using CAD and CAE programs

•Demonstrated ability to manage personal workload and execute to a tight schedule

• Proven abilities of writing detailed test plans and/or worked closely with test engineers to ensure component and system-level testing is performed to ensure the safe and efficient function of the design

• Effective collaboration in a team environment to ensure cross-functional requirements are met while achieving design targets

The Extras:
