Is the future Space Innovative Development a grand challenge problem that you wake up every day looking to take on? Do you operate in the world of technology innovation, concept development, system-of-systems engineering, architecting, development planning, trade space analysis, end-to-end digital Engineering, and new capability delivery?  The Technology Innovation team is looking for a new and motivated contributor who helps the United States Space Force (USSF) Space and Missile Systems Center's Portfolio Architect to execute its role as the USSF future innovator and developer. This position provides technical and programmatic leadership for architecture development and analysis and interfaces with senior government personnel on high impact decisions for the future development of the space enterprise.

 

The person in this position is expected to lead and organize Aerospace and integrated Government/­Contractor/FFRDC teams conducting S&T innovation, concept development, system-of-systems engineering, architecting and development planning.  Responsible for system-of-systems concepts and evaluation processes, as well as integration with modelling and simulation efforts to evaluate the resulting architectures in contested environments.  When you join our team, you’ll be part of a rare collection of thought leaders and game-changing innovators.  Are you ready to supercharge your career?

 

Responsibilities

We are seeking a dynamic project leader for Portfolio Architect to lead our projects supporting the SMC Chief Scientist (SMC/ST) and the Portfolio Architect Division Chief for Innovative Development (SMC/ZAD).  The project leader is tasked with growing our support to SMC/ZAD, as well as collaboration with System of Systems Engineering (SMC/ZAE) in the ongoing process of conducting architecture baseline reviews, technology innovation, and concept development.  This role requires effective interaction with multiple stakeholder organizations, agencies, and military organizations.  The role involves taking science and technology results and transitioning them to space capabilities.  The selectee will work closely across the Portfolio Architect divisions including Systems Engineering, Partnerships, and Capability Areas as well as with external organizations including the SMC Corps, the USSF Enterprise Architecture and Strategy Office, innovation, integration, as well as with senior SMEs with the Space Systems Architect Division (SSAD) and other agencies including NASA and DARPA.  The selected candidate will lead multiple S&T and Innovation efforts that are shaping the future of DoD space. The selected candidate must demonstrate considerable working knowledge in the S&T leadership and concept development ecosystem.

 

Key Functions

•    Support SMC/ST, and SMC/ZAD and work closely with other SMC/ZA and Aerospace Engineering and Technology Group divisions

•    Support Portfolio Architect Space Enterprise Architecture Baseline Reviews (ABR) engaging multiple organizations across DoD and other agencies.

•    Oversee the execution of multiple S&T projects such as Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR), Space Pitch Day, AFWERX initiatives, etc.

•    Work with multiple agencies, mission partners, and R&D entities to develop roadmaps for S&T and concept development for space

•    Develop strong working relationships with a distributed S&T community and facilitate national synergy for Space S&T

•    Interact with senior SMEs on a variety of S&T, system engineering, mission areas, cross-mission areas, and game changers
 

This position is available as an Aerospace Corporation Project Leader or Senior Project Leader

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's of Science degree or better in science, math engineering, or relevant discipline
  • Typically, 8+ years of relevant progressive work experience in engineering, science and technology (S&T)
  • Demonstrated successful leadership for or in support of government organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work in a team environment
  • Ability to build and/or maintain substantive rapport with technology peers and customers
  • Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes utilizing objective facts, analysis, M&S, and testing
  • Excellent written communication skills - can organize complex materials and concepts clearly
  • Demonstrated leadership in organizing professional meetings for Aerospace, Government or professional organization, etc
  • Excellent verbal communication skills - clear, concise, persuasive; builds consensus through speaking;
  • Demonstrated professional record and excellence in technical professional activities
  • Some travel is required
  • Current Secret clearance with eligibility for Top-Secret clearance and SCI access

 

Required for Senior Project Leader

  • A BS degree or better in science, math, engineering, or relevant discipline
  • Typically, 12+ years of relevant progressive work experience in engineering, science and technology (S&T)
  • Demonstrated successful senior leadership for or in support of government organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work in a senior team environment
  • Ability to build and/or maintain substantive rapport with senior technology peers and customers
  • Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes utilizing objective facts, analysis, M&S, and testing
  • Excellent written communication skills - can organize complex materials and concepts clearly
  • Demonstrated leadership in organizing professional meetings for Aerospace, Government or professional organization, etc
  • Excellent verbal communication skills - clear, concise, persuasive; builds consensus through speaking;
  • Demonstrated senior professional record and excellence in technical professional activities
  • Some travel is required
  • Current Secret clearance with eligibility for Top-Secret clearance and SCI access

 
Preferred

  • An advanced degree in science, math or engineering, and management
  • 10+ years demonstrated experience in SMC technology activities with senior government leaders 
  • An excellent personal technical reputation and a record of personal technical achievement 
  • Familiarity with SMC and USSF organizations, missions, architectures and systems
  • Strong working experience with senior technical leaders in government, industry, and FFRDCs
  • The ability to work independently and lead teams in transitioning S&T to space capabilities and lead new innovation initiatives
  • Demonstrated publication record and leadership of technical activities, conferences, and workshops
  • Ability to organize and execute high quality, substantive events, including complex technical fora
  • Recognition by the international technical community
  • Technical depth in multiple space and information mission areas
  • 15+ years of experience with Aerospace, Federal Government, and/or Civil/Commercial space-related activities
  • Demonstrated ability to attract superior talent in multiple disciplines
  • Current Top-Secret SCI clearance and Eligibility for SAP
