Mission:
We’re looking for someone to lead a small team that will build and extend Tala’s backend architecture to support new country launches, new features, and scale to support a fast growing user base. The Tech Lead will work with and push the team towards building a highly available, scalable, reliable, fault tolerant, and performant microservices platform. The Tech Lead will follow and improve upon Tala’s engineering processes and standards while advancing Tala’s mission and business objectives.

The Tech Lead will be focused on the services that drive Tala’s central Loans and Decisioning logic. They will be fleshing out features of existing services, breaking apart larger services as the need arises, as well as architecting, developing, releasing, and maintaining new ones.

This is a role within Tala’s technical track. They will report to the Backend Engineering Manager and collaborate cross-functionally with all Tala teams across the globe. The expectation is 50% leadership duties / 50% individual contribution.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of backend software engineering experience
• Have deep and recent programming experience with a modern programming language (Go, Java, C#, etc.)
• Expert knowledge in REST API design and development for mobile/web use
• Expert proficiency in Agile development process
• Excellent ability to prioritize and communicate in a fast-paced environment
• Strong RDBMS experience in design, modeling, complex querying and performance optimization
• Strong non-relational database experience (Cassandra, Redshift, DynamoDB, HDFS)
• Demonstrated ability to interview candidates and evaluate technical skills
• Nurture and mentor technical team to develop the solutions
• Be humble and hungry
  

Must Haves:

• Must have Cloud experience period
• Our data infrastructure will be 100% based on Cloud technologies (AWS or GCP). They must have this experience - meaning they built and supported this infrastructure in Production. 
• Must have handled large amount of scale (> 1000 RPM) in Production

Nice to Haves:

• BS degree in Computer Science or related fields
• Experience working for a finance-related company
