General Responsibilities
Systems Engineering Processes:
Install, configure, and maintain the operation of Studio systems.
Maintain the operations of all enterprise physical and virtual systems, servers and storage to ensure availability.
Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve system hardware, software, and networking issues.
Maintain and resolve complex technical problems across IT infrastructure services including Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange/O356, file print, DNS, DHCP, Storage, and Networking.
Refine ability to install, configure, optimize, fine-tune, and monitor the operating system software and servers.
Perform high-level root cause analysis for service interruption recovery and create preventive measures.
Utilize expertise in systems architecture and infrastructure engineering along with foundational programming ability.
Work to implement and improve the Studios' existing in-house infrastructure, as well as integrate and maintain various third-party systems and products.
Contribute to the design of future architecture in addition to evaluating and integrating third-party solutions for hardware, software, and workflow for maintenance of operations across multi-site, world-class post production facility.
Install and administer core network services (LDAP, DNS, Firewall, etc.); hardware integration and deployment, software installation, configuration management (Puppet), networking, incident response and management, security, setup and installation of Linux and open-source extension packages.
Interface with supporting teams for capacity planning, change management, and issue resolution throughout our 24x7x365 Information Technology Operations.
Specific Duties
Systems Engineering Processes:
Support, troubleshoot, maintain, and develop systems and video infrastructure for Studio that includes, but not limited to storage systems, Autodesk machines, various audio and video equipment, render farm and CG/Desktop compositing workstations.
Develop internal tools and utilities for operating, monitoring, and reporting on studio infrastructure availability and utilization.
Develop and maintain high-level digital security standards required in a post-production environment.
Develop and maintain written operational procedures for routine network management processes.
Administer servers and network services; LDAP, NIS, AD, DNS, DHCP, and NFS.
Administer network switches, network storage, and associated tape backup system, Virtual Server Infrastructure, Databases, User accounts, Email technologies, Firewall, Internet and Digital Security, User support and troubleshooting.
Performance Testing:
Analyze and tune systems for performance, throughput, resource utilization, high availability, and scalability.
Evaluate system components, software, networking infrastructure and hardware peripherals for reliability, performance, scalability and security.
Notes, Documentation, and Metrics:
Research in order to maintain a working knowledge of relevant hardware and software applications, including emerging technologies.
Evaluate business requirements and make recommendations on systems design and hardware purchases to fulfill business needs.
Write Knowledge base Articles for the technical support staff on solving common systems-related problems.
Corporate:
Maintain the operation of exchange and Office365 environment.
Troubleshoot and resolve any IT service issues related to operating systems and servers.
Requirements / Background
4 years employment experience within a professional systems engineering environment in the media and post-production industry required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Video Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Color Science; any certification is a plus
Advanced knowledge and understanding of computer hardware
Basic understanding of color science and video standards
Experience in the installation, configuring, and troubleshooting of key software packages a plus, including: Resolve, Baselight, Flame, Smoke and Avid.
Experience related to disaster recovery, business continuity, backup systems, tape libraries, SAN, and NAS knowledge a plus
Ability to solve problems unsupervised and recommend proactive technical solutions
Team player with good communication skills, but also a self-starter, who is assertive and confident in his/her abilities
Must be an energetic individual, who welcomes challenges and is able to work in a fast-moving, quick response, demanding, flexible environment, with minimal supervision
Must work under flexible working hours in order to meet deadlines
Must also be flexible and willing to accept business and technology change; he or she must be a team player, capable of independent work, study and analysis
Business Systems Experience
Knowledge of CentOS, RedHat based Linux or any other Linux distro
Knowledge of TCP/IP based networking
Strong understanding of storage systems
Remote administration
Ability to administer modern enterprise server and virtualization technologies, including VMware
Knowledge of SAN, NAS and Networking
Knowledge of video engineering (video routing systems, VTRs)
Experience with VMware or OpenStack virtual infrastructures
Advanced knowledge of Linux server and desktop environments
Solid knowledge of Windows, Mac OSX, and Ubuntu platforms
Programming experience with at least one of Python, Bash, C/C++, Java, or similar
Shell or Python scripting
Knowledge of storage systems administration, specifically SAN
Knowledge of SQL databases (MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB) administration
Knowledge of Autodesk systems and software (Flame, Smoke, Flare, Luster)
Novatime – Time entry, Report generation
MS Office Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook proficiency, with strong knowledge in administering MS Exchange/Office 365 services (ActiveSync and Active Directory management)
Deep understanding of HTTP, DNS, and certificates and how they work with Outlook, ActiveSync, and Outlook Web Access.
