SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides leadership, planning, and direction of technical office staff and operations for Commercial Programs. Assigns resources, determines staffing needs, and coordinates activities and operations among subordinate units. Communicates and coordinates activities to counterpart organizations, management, and customers.

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Establishes organization’s objectives and goals and communicates them to subordinates, management, and interfacing matrix organizations. Conducts Commercial Program activities consistent with corporate policies/practices, goals, and objectives. Sets performance standards; assesses sufficiency and quality of organization’s services.
  • Participates with higher management in determining organization’s structure and staff and supports resource needs. Participates in budget planning and allocation of resources. Implements policies, practices, and operating processes and recommends improvements to higher management. Reports organization’s activities, progress and achievements through written and oral reports to management, subordinates, and customers.
  • Identifies and assigns sub-organization and staff functional responsibilities. Assigns and coordinates work activities within organization; monitors workload, work progress and schedules, ensures completion of organization’s work assignments within cost and schedule guidelines. Participates in inter-organizational team assignments associated with management and technical issues and in training and educational activities.
  • Seeks and identifies opportunities for additional, expanded and new business and assists higher management in the evaluation and pursuit of new opportunities.
  • Cooperates and communicates frequently with customer to coordinate and report work progress, issues, and results. Conducts work performance within customer standards and regulations. Participates selectively in day-to-day technical task planning and issue resolution; coordinates work activities with counterpart and common-task participation organizations.
  • Conducts staff performance reviews and recommends performance improvement, career development, salary and promotion actions; establishes staffing needs and recommends reassignments, training, transfers, and other staff deployments; assists other supervisors in evaluation and assignment of staff.
  • Monitors and directs organization’s security processes, compliance, and safety awareness.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate technical discipline from an accredited university
  • Experience in a managerial role with proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of contractors, customers, and corporate staff
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to customer sites and conferences, when required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven credibility and credentials in commercial space sector related communities with record of active involvement and leadership in relevant professional organizations.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of corporate staff, customers, and contractors
  • Must have proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with high level executives in commercial space companies
  • Demonstrated abilities to proactively apply a broad set of skills to work diverse problems is highly desired, as is acute technical insight, seasoned problem solving skills, and demonstrated application of sound judgment
  • Demonstrated business development skills with an entrepreneurial spirit to proactively seek out new business opportunities while keeping high satisfaction ratings with existing customers
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong technical leadership skills
  • Proven ability to build successful interdisciplinary team
  • Active or recently active Secret clearance with ability to reactivate
  • Familiarity with: development and qualification of space systems, sub-systems, components and materials

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 12 or more years of progressively responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including substantial experience in a managerial role with proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of contractors, customers, and corporate staff
  • Advanced degree in an appropriate technical or business discipline from an accredited university

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENTS

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
