THE PURPOSE:

The VHO Engineering team is looking for multiple structural analysis roles across several engineering departments. The analysts will be integral to design teams, working to ensure the strength and reliability of mechanical parts.We are seeking candidates with broad skillsets and experience to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals and work on one of the most challenging transportation applications on Earth, from right here at our Los Angeles facility. 

THE ROLE:

  • All positions are for a Structural Engineering Analyst, responsible for:
  • Setting up Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models for VHO components
  • Defining all the applicable load cases and failure criteria
  • Performing static and dynamic (implicit or explicit) FEA
  • Post processing of the FEA results and creating documents and presentations
  • Working closely with Design Engineers to enhance the design of parts
  • Working closely with test engineers to define the required experiments to validate and verify the materials, models, and systems
  • Creation of analysis tools/ templates for use across engineering team
  • Review of analysis tasks completed by other engineers

Some roles will include specialization in the following areas:

  • Noise, Vibration, Harshness
  • Mechanical Design of Electric Motors or other Electro-Magnetic parts
  • Civil structure analysis including concrete material
  • Pressure Vessels
  • Thermal analysis; e.g. transient, solar radiation, etc.

THE CANDIDATE:
The candidate must have product engineering experience in structural analysis. They must be able to conduct extensive analyses for complex problems and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
In addition, the candidate must possess the following characteristics:

• Ability to understand and interpret a variety of abstract and concrete variables and provide solutions to difficult problems

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. in Mechanical / Aerospace / Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Sound knowledge of finite element method (basics and fundamentals of FE method are a must)
  • Working experience with FEA software such as Ansys, Abaqus, or NASTRAN
  • Understanding of mechanics of materials
  • Ability to perform hand calculations on the fly

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical/ Aerospace / Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Some experience with project management
  • Programming capability in Matlab, or similar
  • Experience developing a product from concept to production
  • Developing verification plans to meet requirements / specifications
  • Experience in some of the following disciplines:
    • Fatigue and fracture mechanics
    • Thermo-Mechanical analysis
    • Dynamics simulation including vibration
    • Analysis of electric motors or electro-mechanical systems
    • Optimization of Structures
    • Design of Experiments
    • Thermal analysis
    • Plastics, concrete, and non-linear materials
