Role Overview
InStride is looking for a motivated Staff Engineer to lead the architecture, development, and sustainment of its platform and ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have previous experience building web and mobile digital products for large enterprises with a proven track record of building applications, services and infrastructure. Responsibilities
- Deep experience as a thought-leader and problem solver, covering projects large and small
- Provide hands-on technical leadership for a team of engineers to build, deliver and sustain a world-class learning services platform
- Act as a technical domain expert for platform architecture while leading discussions and decisions
- Help define, contribute and support the wider Technology strategy
- Work cross-functionally with a variety of teams to meet goals and drive business
- Ensure engineering best practices and implement tools and/or frameworks for software development, agile, security, accessibility, compliance, performance, HADR, etc.
- Experience with a variety of open source technologies, working with cloud services and leveraging modern UI frameworks (Angular, React) and backend (RESTful APIs, Node.js, python, microservices, serverless, etc)
Ideal Profile
- 7+ years software engineering experience delivering large scale, global, high traffic and highly available consumer-facing web applications/mobile apps
- 2+ years experience with JavaScript programming language and node.js tech stack
- 3+ years experience in Web application development and React framework is a plus
- 5+ years experience delivering projects using agile methodologies and collaborating with teams including product, user experience, project management, etc. with the ability to articulate issues to non-technical colleagues
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent relevant work experience
- Motivated by simple, scalable, extensible architectures that solve real business needs
- Experience delivering SaaS solutions for large enterprise customers
- Experience across the stack using a wide variety of open source technologies, cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP), enterprise-grade system design
- Ability to lead and act as technical authority for platform architecture discussions and decisions
- Proactively communicate and manage expectations with your leader and team
- Excited by the challenge of building a world-class business that delivers not only high revenue growth and compelling ROI, but also has a meaningful impact on society
- Exposure to higher education institutions through direct experience and/or passion for the education space
- Comfort with ambiguity and a “no job too small” startup mentality
