The Senior Data Engineer will lead the design and development of the core components of the data platform, design and implement storage strategies for various input sets and make it easy for the company to use. The senior data engineer will work closely with our data analysts to ensure data is available in a consistent, timely and reliable manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translate business requirements into practical engineering tasks.
  • Design and implement all parts of the data platform systems including data ingestion from multiple sources, transformations and loads to multiple end points.
  • Help evaluate new tools and technologies to keep our stack at the cutting edge.
  • Document and communicate design with engineering teams.

SUCCESS FACTORS:

  • Works with other engineering teams to ensure development of reusable and extendable components and APIs.
  • Adapt and evolve designs over time to meet business needs as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise.
  • As many processes as possible are automated and have monitoring and alerting.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent problem solving and debugging skills with a solid understanding of testing practices.
  • 2+ years working with Big Data and associated technologies: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, NoSql solutions, Apache Nifi, Flume, Sqoop. PubSub messaging services, Elasticsearch/Solr.
  • 5+ years of related experience in software development.
  • Experience with AWS or Google Cloud preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with data modeling, design patterns, object oriented concepts.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with programming languages such as Java, Scala, Python, Ruby or similar.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
