Senior Additive Process Engineer
Team and Role Overview
The Additive Development team at Relativity Space is responsible for the core development, automation and operation of Relativity’s Additive Technologies used to manufacture the world’s first 3d-printed launch vehicle. As Relativity’s first Sr. Additive Process Engineer, you will work closely with our Automation, Weld, Material and NDE teams to establish control over critical additive processes and workflows to maximize the yield and quality of our additively printed parts. You will leverage data-driven analyses and work with our subject matter experts to identify trends in print quality, drive non-conformances to their root-cause, and develop/qualify/integrate countermeasures.
The Mission/Outcomes and Objectives
- Use your expertise and understanding of Additive Manufacturing processes and capabilities to diagnose issues and non-conformances.
- Identify trends on print quality using a data-driven approach. You are capable of transforming data across time, frequency, and spatial domains to identify root-cause and effects.
- You will be responsible for process improvements and disposition of non-conformances.
- You leverage hands-on trouble-shooting and thorough data analysis to drive corrective action back to root-cause identification.
- Drive qualification of new controls and processes in Relativity’s Stargate-Class Printers.
- Fundamental understanding of stochastic methods and data reduction methods to identify trends and critical variables in our additive process
- High capacity for multi-tasking and identifying critical-path objectives.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to succinctly communicate the salient points from complex data reviews and analyses across a multidisciplinary engineering organization.
- Establish controls for critical process parameters while supporting continual process development.
- Support and drive process improvements in ancillary areas including safety improvements, consumables handling, and secondary manufacturing operations.
Candidate Profile
You have aptitude for solving ill-defined problems involving multi-disciplinary systems. You are able to understand how changes to material, mechanical, software, and control systems may impact the quality and integrity of Relativity’s printed structures. You a strong generalist capable of diving deep into a variety of subjects ranging from software engineering to welding physics to connect the dots on how changes on either end of the spectrum may affect the other. You are equally capable of designing an IIR filter in Python as you are reviewing NDT results or GD&T tolerance stackups. You have a commitment to quality and the discipline required to achieve it.
Minimum Required Skills and Competencies
- 5+ years of experience working industrial automation systems design or equivalent.
- Comfortable performing data manipulation, transformation, and scaling for analyses; additional preparation including digital signal processing, outlier detection, time and frequency domain analyses required.
- Comfortable performing statistical analysis including linear regression, ANOVA, Bayesian analyses with leading industry tools (R, Python, SQL).
- BS degree in mathematics, engineering, or physical science.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Experience qualifying weld schedules.
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in mathematics, engineering, or physical science.
