About Smarkets

FinTech, meet Sports Betting

Smarkets UK has revolutionized peer-to-peer trading on sports and politics. We’ve built a platform that operates like a stock exchange, yet is modern, sleek, easy to use, and has handled over $10 billion worth of trades since 2010. The US office opened in 2017 and has since helped the Company expand by creating a sportsbook that is the first of its kind, SBK. Utilizing the tools which made our exchange so successful, we've modernized them even further to create a product that takes the relatively solitary experience of betting, and made it into a social one.

Our success is directly attributable to the exceptional talent that work at Smarkets; so the role of the Software Engineer is vital. Due to our unique team structure, roles and projects can shift as the needs of the team, product, and individual evolve. An Insider's view of Smarkets

What are some social events your company does?

We eat lunch together every day! It allows us time to socialize and grow closer as a team, eat great food, and play one of our many board games or activities in the office. At the end of every month we also have a happy hour to celebrate that month's accomplishments where the team and their friends and family can all join!

At Smarkets the engineering teams have true ownership over their work. We are the main drivers behind all technical/product decisions and the added responsibility helps us become more well-rounded engineers.

How do you make yourself accessible to the rest of the team?

I'm always available to our team of just over 100 employees, but since I launched the LA office, I get to work alongside a team of talented developers on a daily basis. It allows them to share ideas directly with me to influence the direction of the company and promotes an agile work environment.
