A Software Engineer at Flowspace possesses solid developer skills and is able to function independently, while planning ahead. Our ideal engineer has experience working on SaaS applications with React on the front end and Ruby on Rails on the back end. They are responsible for building, testing, debugging and maintaining code while working closely with the product and engineering teams to develop solutions. 


This position is fully remote, as long as you reside in the United States. Please note, we are not approved at this time to hire with visa sponsorship.

What You'll Do:

  • Own projects end-to-end, from initial design, to prototype, to rollout.
  • Plan projects collaboratively, working effectively across teams leveraging your strong CS fundamentals to define and complete subtasks.
  • Help rapidly scale our product and team.
  • As a member of the engineering team, you'll be an integral part of how we mature our tooling, best practices, engineering processes, and hiring.
  • Apply intermediate-level skills (and beyond!) in Ruby on Rails to build solutions to the problems involved in fulfilling e-commerce orders. This includes contributions to particular features and functionality, but also the frameworks around which we structure the application as well as debugging, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Enhance a React front-end, built with Javascript and Typescript, powered by a GraphQL API
  • Collaborate with a high-powered team of engineers using Github. 
  • Provide code review and constructive feedback to other team members.
  • Leverage MAC OS X and Linux skills in that collaboration as well as in ensuring the smooth operations of the Flowspace app.
  • Communicate status updates to your team and management, as well as provide feedback on the work of others.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum of 4 years of software development experience, with Ruby on Rails.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field of study
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Ruby on Rails with Javascript development (required)
  • Build software with a product-first approach. You ship code quickly and care about the real world impact of your code
  • Have strong abilities in problem solving and iterating on feedback
  • Enjoy ownership and building key pieces of product
  • Good communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work independently on well-defined tasks, while managing competing priorities
  • Experienced working in a team environment communicating effectively across levels and a variety of internal customers.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with Git or Github, and Linux or Unix.
  • Experience in related industry (logistics / fulfillment)

Other Helpful Things to Know:

  • Position can be remote however must be within the U.S., working U.S. hours
  • Occasional support duties require working until 8pm Eastern/5pm Pacific
  • Typical physical demands include daily use of computer, screens / phone / traditional office equipment, including webcam
