If you’re a passionate Web/Mobile UI Engineer excited about the future of the human brain, Kernel is the place for you! We’re looking for a creative and energized engineer to build, iterate, and collaborate on the user interfaces that will power the Brain Revolution. You’ll work closely with design and software engineering teams to produce world-class applications for Kernel users.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Write simple, elegant, and maintainable React, TypeScript, and CSS code to create sleek web and mobile applications, including those for our Kernel Cloud and Flow users 
• Communicate throughout your process and within our highly-iterative environment by demonstrating/sharing progress, seeking feedback, surveying users, ingesting analytics with a general awareness of both engineering cost and scope (simplicity ships)
• Work closely with Design and Product Management teams to scope powerful and accessible software experiences
• Report to Lead UI Engineer and contribute to and elevate Kernel’s growing UI codebases by integrating seamlessly with existing patterns, growing legacy code, and contributing new and useful abstractions

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• You can demonstrate exceptional engineering thinking and skill as demonstrated via a detailed work experience, launched software products, code repositories, etc.
• You have experience (4+ years) using React, TypeScript, CSS, HTML, front-end animation, web tooling, Git to build pixel-perfect web and mobile applications
• Proficiency in mobile development such as React Native, iOS, and/or Android
• You have excellent communication skills as demonstrated via past collaborative experience, writings, video, etc. 
• You are strong in computer science fundamentals such as algorithms, design, data structures, and problem-solving
• You can distill complex engineering concepts, ingest and apply feedback, research existing (internal/external) solutions to inform decisions

PREFERRED SKILLS:

• Strong familiarity with a popular design tool such as Sketch, Illustrator, Photoshop
• Knowledge of back-end development, including other languages such as python, Rust, or C++; databases such as PostgreSQL; or infrastructure such as AWS, Docker
• Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
