Being a Software Engineer at Smarkets means working in high-performing teams that have control over the features they ship and the code they write. We have built a modern tech stack around Linux, Kafka, Postgres, and Kubernetes using Python 3, C++ 17 and React.

At Events, we are responsible for processing data for tens of thousands of sport events happening around the world every year, acting upon it in real time and making it available to the rest of Smarkets and the external customers. We use the latest versions of Python 3, data storage systems like Postgres and ElasticSearch, and a fleet of microservices interacting via message queues (we use Kafka) and HTTP REST API. Our mission is to create and maintain a resilient, highly scalable system that is operational 24/7 and can handle thousands of RPS.

The Smarkets platform is used by tens of thousands daily through the app, website or REST API. We are continuously developing new features for these platforms, or improving performance, scalability and usability in the backend.

About You

• You have a Bachelor’s in Computer Science or relevant experience, with a good understanding of software design, data structures, and algorithms
  You enjoy writing elegant, well-tested and maintainable code
  You are well-versed in Python 3, or any other object oriented programming language with a desire to learn Python
  You enjoy collaborating with others
  You can talk comfortably about software at both a high (design) and low (algo) level
  You are self-driven, motivated by technical challenges and always looking for ways to improve the product you work on
