Senior Optical Engineer

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design, model, and analyze electro-optical airborne and space-based remote sensing systems including visible and infrared imaging radiometers and spectral imaging sensors
- Generate novel remote sensing payload concepts to meet evolving customer requirements
- Develop and review test setups, procedures and data for integration and alignment of optical systems
- Work independently and collaborate with senior staff and leadership to solve interdisciplinary technical problems
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- BS in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical), Optical Engineering and/or Physics required
- MS and PhD preferred, but not required
- 5+ years of post-degree experience performing optical system design, analysis, alignment and test in the workforce and/or in the pursuit of an advanced degree
- Must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance at the TS/SCI level
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated first principles approach to complex opto-mechanical problems through telescope design, camera design, integrated fiber optics, laser systems, or photonic integrated circuits
- Experience with sensor selection and characterization and imaging systems
- Radiometry and straylight analysis experience. Expert user of ZEMAX, Code V, FRED or similar optical design and analysis software tools
- Optical component testing experience (spectral transmission, etc.), optical system alignment and testing (EFL, MTF, PSF, etc.), and opto-electrical system modeling
- Experience integrating and testing optical systems with detectors, such as CMOS, CCD, microbolometer and T2SLS arrays
- Experience collecting and analyzing interferometric data for optical system alignment
- Experience with STOP (Structure, Thermal, and Optical Performance) analysis
- Experience developing code in higher level languages (Python, MATLAB, C++) for test data post processing and imagery analysis
- Demonstrated experience in the integration, test, and performance requirements verification and validation of optical systems
- Good analytical skills in passive remote sensing electro-optical system performance evaluation including radiometry, optical design and testing, and sensor performance metrics
- Demonstrated team leadership experience and mentoring of junior staff
- Knowledge of common materials used in optical systems and limitations of fabrication methods of optics (molded, polished, diamond turned) as well as micro structures
