We're looking for a Senior Industrial Controls Engineer to join the growing Engineering team. The Sr. Industrial Controls Engineer will be responsible for working with the larger team to ensure all aspects of the industrial control systems meets Apeel’s equipment and user requirements.  Apeel is looking for someone who can effectively understand the opportunities and challenges for technical success in new environments and facilities, including customized design solutions for specific customers.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design of Apeel’s industrial control systems for all equipment used in the application of Apeel’s barrier coating product
  • Work on the integration of the control systems between existing equipment and third-party customer equipment
  • Work with third-party equipment vendors on the design of control systems to meet Apeel specifications
  • Specify and program HMIs to provide the needed equipment functionality and control
  • Generate block diagrams, controls schematics, and other engineering documentation as needed for the fabrication, testing and release of key components and the overall control system design
  • Work with vendors to identify and source key components as required by per the design specifications
  • Design and implement equipment and process improvements
  • Build initial proof of concept / prototype systems
  • Generate and carry out performance validation test plans for new designs
  • Work with appropriate test agencies to confirm designs meet needed regulatory approvals
  • Collect and analyze performance data from equipment and automated processes to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Proactively manage reliability and performance risk mitigation tasks, to ensure the long-term reliability of designed systems
  • Ensure all design are completed and implemented following appropriate codes and standards
  • Write technical reports, present design and test results during Apeel’s technical forums

What You Bring

  • Industrial, electrical, mechanical, process engineer or similar with minimum 10 years of hands-on experience designing and implementing industrial automation control systems
  • Experience working with and designing agriculture / food processing equipment or similar industrial machinery
  • Experience working with PLCs, HMIs, and equipment from several industrial automation controls companies, such as ABB, Allen Bradley, Siemens, and Honeywell
  • Experience integrating different types and brands of control systems and hardware to create a single linked system
  • Expert with ladder logic, PLC and SCADA programming
  • Experience integrating and programming Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
  • Experience taking a design from concept through prototype to production
  • Hands-on experience with the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Experience with the testing and certification of new designs to meet regulatory compliance requirements (UL & CE)
  • Experience working with component suppliers to identify, validate and source key components
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-directed but also works effectively and professionally with cross functional teams to achieve common Company goals
  • Highly creative and resourceful individual. Experienced with performing complex root cause and corrective actions analysis
